USAFA Class of 2023 Appointment Thread

USAFA Class of 2023 Appointments:

60) HI-Flier / DS / No LOA / 23-Feb-19 / Accepted / HI / Congressional, Senatorial / Direct Appointment, Falcon Scholar

HI on the map! Congratulations on your DS appointment! Can you send me a PM and tell me which Senator you received your nomination from (tried to send one to you but couldn’t) I’m trying to figure out what’s still out there. We hope to hear something this week. My DS received a AFROTC offer but I’d prefer that he goes to the AFA. Thanks!

Its now in the appointee kit.

That would make more sense.

Is the appointee kit showing only to those who are 3Q or already appointed? DS is still waiting on a waiver for USAFA but received one for AFROTC a while ago. I know it’s silly but any change on the portal starts off a ridiculous chain of hopes and doubts in my mind. DS, thankfully, is taking it all in stride.

I think the kit only shows to those that have been appointed. My DD is 3Q and it does not show for her. She just got her waiver two days ago.
How long did her waiver take?

DQd last week of Nov. Waivers requested 2nd week of Dec. Qualified last week.

And how long before the portal changes?
It’s different for each person. Depends on when/if they get a call. Seems like it can be a few days delay between the call and the portal update. My DD has a friend from MI that got a call for USMA and his portal updated the next day.

Not all MOCs call. I’d say more do not call than do call. The Academies do not call you. It will show up in your portal. USAFA tends to send an email when your portal updates. USMA has not been.

As an excel nerd, I updated the appointment stats as of this morning, 2019 vs. 2018 using the threads on the forum, last year for the week beginning 3/4/18, 31 appointments were reported.

So far for 2019:
Accepted 35
Will accept 16
Undecided 11
Declined 3

As of 2/28/18 - 56 appointments self-reported, as of 2/28/19 - 65 appointments. This may or may not mean anything since its self-reported. Just a data point.

11 were Falcon Scholars for 2019.

Top 4 states with appointments:
CA - 8
TX - 8
FL - 6
IL - 4
NC - 4

@Susan707 Impressed by your excel skills! Have you noticed a pattern on which days of the week people have been receiving appointments?

Looking at March of last year, waves seemed to hit beginning on Tuesdays and ran to end of week. Prior years are not always good predictors of current years. My guess which is just a wild guess is something happened on Monday and news starting getting to candidates afterwards.

I don't have 2019 file with me but I think it seemed liked Wednesdays were the start, again going from memory. Either way, seems like something happens on Mon/Tues then information gets passed along. Maybe admissions committee meets the first of week to make decisions. Or they made the decisions last week and they tell MOC the first of this week and info gets passed along. I'm not really sure of the actual timing of the process, just guessing.

In reality, there is no way to actually know when the bulk of appointments will start. Using prior years, it should be this week or next. However, no one except USAFA really knows. I think everyone is stressed and just guessing to pass the time. At least I'm stressed, working on my SA spreadsheets just helps me pass the time as I wait for it to start.

I need to get another hobby or two to get passed this waiting period! May try some Spring cleaning!

In regards to your spring cleaning, if it "doesn't spark joy", Maria Kondo says it has to go. Trying to be light hearted as we wait !!!!!

When you did your excellent excel work, were you able to compare the state by state appointments from prior years? I'm wondering if it means anything as to which states have appointees or not, and whether anything can be gleaned from prior years.

Morning! For all of you already accepted...
How long does it generally take for the usafa portal to reflect "qualified" after DODMERB has stamped it? My medical just got stamped "potential pilot qualified" on dodmil, but it is still showing "incomplete" on my academy portal.
Thoughts??

Mine took a little over a week to change in USAFA portal to qualified
