USAFA Letter of Assurance - Please share hard stats

.....One question, I received my LOA in the mail, but it has not been updated in my portal. Is it supposed to? When I called admissions to ask about this in early December they said to wait, but it's been over a month, should I call again? Any feedback appreciated.

DS in in the same situation. Another thread indicated all would be updated after the holidays...likely 2nd or 3rd week in January.

My DD was a recruited athlete in class of 2021. Received LOA at roughly the same time as national signing day in mid Nov. I think it was a way to provide her with assurance and comfort to sign letter of intent and rescind scholarships from other schools. Her stats were: GPA - 4.0 (unweighted), SAT - 1360, APs - 5 or 6. It took about 6 weeks for the rest of the paperwork to come through the portal if memory serves.

My opinion and I'm just a dad: The holidays do stack things up at admissions. Give it to the middle of January and then call.
You could also try reaching out to your ALO.

My DD received LOA on Christmas Eve. (Great Christmas gift for the whole family!)
DD decided on this path toward the end of her sophomore year and then became fully committed to grades and athletics.

GPA improved from 3.46 to 3.74 (6 AP courses)
ACT Composite of 33 (35 English, 25 Math, 36 Reading, 36 Science)
Two team state championships (Athletics)
Two individual All-State honors (Athletics)
Captain (Athletics)
National Honor Society
Girls State

DD is now a recruited athlete, but was not until she hit performance standards.

My DD received what her admissions counselor called a Letter of Interest (mailed, not in portal 10/09/19). Not sure if this is USAFA's LOE. The LOI says "A spot in the USAFA Class of 2024 will be reserved for you provided you meet all admissions requirements, to include a qualified medical status." and you have 60 days or by 12/19/19 to complete your application requirements. She received the actual LOA on 10/30/19 (in portal), nom uploaded 12/18, and appointment on 12/24/19. She was not a recruited athlete, but she was selected for FVE, and DD says several claimed they got LOAs at the same time. I think others may have received LOIs as well; but just like us mistook the LOI for an LOA. And really, how much experience do candidates having getting LOAs, so when you see something that looks reaaallly close, you think it's an LOA!

oops. meant to reply to @DeepWaters post #25.
DD stats in a thread I started, circa 10/10/2019 or so.

I received an LOA last august here where my stats:
GPA: 3.65 in 3 honors classes and 2-3 AP classes a year
ACT: 33 composite
Extracurriculars: Good amount of community service in different programs - no clubs
Athletics: Individual state champion twice, Named state all star all 4 years, Varsity team captain for three years.
Was a recruited athlete

For those of you with kids who have received LOAs for the AF, first, congrats. Second, could you share some hard stats (namely ACT/SAT scores and GPAs). I suspect they also had strong extracurriculars, but if there is any one thing you think might have tipped the scales in terms of an LOA (recruited athlete, URM), please share that too if you are comfortable doing so. Finally, if anyone has any insight into how many of these actually go out each year, when they typically go out, etc., I would love to hear from you.

Thank you.
4.3 Gpa weighted, 3.98 unweighted, 29 ACT, lots of leadership including captain of state championship wrestling team, captain of tennis team, President of Aviation Club, Boys State, BSA Eagle Scout, etc. He DID NOT get in. He did get into USNA and that was his first choice. Who can figure all this out, lol?!

The other factor that is hard to talk about is diversity candidates. They may not have the perfect SAT scores or all state athletic recognition but have a competitive application.

DS completed his application in November 2019 and received his LOA in December. Our congressman didn’t do his interviews and appointments until mid January. Received and accepted January 29, 2020.

SAT: 1500
ACT: 33
GPA: 4.0 (u) 4.6 (w)
3 varsity sports (water polo, swim and track) and team captain of 2.
Class president 2 years and VP 1 year.
FFA, AgDiscovery, Tech Club and work experience.

'm sure most candidate zealots like me say that, but I'm genuine! I've spent some time in environments similar to BCT (as least as much as I know about BCT) But I'll honestly just enjoy being there. It's a blessing!

LOA happens before offer and acceptance. It is conditional on medical qualification and nomination.

Thanks for the reply!
Sorry for taking so long to respond!

@Stealth_81 is saying that it isn't a letter of encouragement, but I don't know what else it would be called. I completed my app by my Nov 1 deadline, and did not receive an appointment until early March, so I'm not sure that it had any bearing on my application except encouraging me to complete it faster. I hope that helps!
