Have questions?

Hey, I graduated the prep school last month and will be going to the hill. If you have any questions about the prep school, feel free to ask.

I'm headed to the Prep School in month and I have a question about rank for Priors. I have a line number for Staff Sergeant and my promotion would be effective 1 August 2017... 16 days after the I-Day for the Priors. Do you know of any Priors that got "promoted" (didn't actually 'sew on' but got paid as their promoted rank)? I've received mixed answers on this issue. A Prior service C/C from the USAFAPS Class of 2015 said that I wouldn't promote. On the other hand, I called the Admissions office about a month ago and an individual there said that I would. Any clarification on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

For my class, we were told that if you were supposed to rank up during your time there that you would be paid as such. If you have any issues, or to find a concrete answer I would suggest asking your leadership after basic. They are more than willing to help you with it. Feel free to PM, if you'd like.

Can't PM yet because I don't post enough. When did you start to get the freedoms of civilians clothes on weekends and going off base?

For last year, the prep school had 4 progression phases. One for each school quarter. We received civilian clothes within the prep school area, I believe, after parents weekend. By second quarter we had civilian clothes on base. Third we could go off base in civilian clothes. Each phase progressed with the amount of liberties you could have. Also, if you did well in gpa, the pt test and/or militarily you received more privileges. For going off base, we started off a few passes for the quarter and by 4th quarter had unlimited weekend passes. Also, if you do poorly in an area or get in trouble, you can be phased back.

I'm assuming that you were not a Prior service C/C, so do you have any advice from an Non-Prior Service (NPS) perspective? What, if anything, do you wish the Prior Service C/Cs in your class did differently to more effectively contribute to the class?

I am a prior with nearly 4 years tis.

Lmao @Eagle8201
I'm eagles classmate and a fellow prior-
As a prior, you'll be held to a higher standard than the directs but will receive no extra privileges or wiggle room for that. You won't receive any recognition for your prior service but the second you make a minuscule slip up, it'll get thrown in your face that you should know better.
Plus side, you can drink (assuming you're 21).
Have fun, make friends, help out the directs, don't take anything too seriously!

Awesome, I appreciate the solid advice. Why do the Priors have to report a week early? Is that for inprocessing? Additionally, should I have my stripes ripped off my uniform?
Sorry for the barrage of questions; I almost feel as if I don't really know what I've signed myself up for as the day gets closer and closer.

As Wedge stated, he is my classmate and us priors are looked up to by the directs.

The early reporting is to attend briefings only priors need. Also, it will allow you time to adjust and prepare your room for basic. The extra couple days are truly helpful. For the stripes, check your instructions for processing. Ours told us to report in with stripes on the sleeves.

In truth the prep school will be a great experience and you will enjoy it. Most of the staff will be the same that we had last year and they care about you. They are there for you and will help you. Just ask. It may be scary as first, but as you go it'll become easier and realistic that you're heading towards the goal of graduating the academy. Just takes time. You got this.

Feel free to ask as many questions as you want.

We have a friend who will be at prep school this year. Does anyone know what date this year's Basic Training ends?
Also, he doesn't have his mailing address yet. Does anyone know when they will get their address? Or do we send it in care of his name to a general address? We'd love to write to him.

BMT graduation is August 5th. I was also told we will get a postcard shortly after arrival to send home with our mailing address.

Thanks for the info. It's too bad they can't give out mailing addresses sooner. If you have to send a postcard home, there will be some days lost due to mailing and that doesn't give us much time to write. I was hoping to have a letter waiting for him when he arrives.

Congrats and best to you! Are you excited?!
