USAFA Waiting Page C/O 2028

While there may be nothing unusual about this year's appointment timeline, I have had to course correct my own expectations after realizing how distinct the various SAs are in their appointment processes. Additionally, in my state I've seen Congressmen and Senators sending out USAFA appointment letters in January and February. I now suspect these were early appointments offered to LOA holders and that general admission appointments occur a little later in the cycle. None of this is info you really know/understand until you're in it.

I'm also sympathetic to any family feeling the need to pull-the-trigger at this stage in a decision process. Flights, hotels, roommate decisions, deposits, graduation announcements, etc. You better bet DS accepted his USMA appointment, and we will gladly reorder new graduation announcements with a RUSH order if USAFA surprises us. LOL!

Just a reminder to everyone; college decisions are not legally binding. At this point, I would recommend "committing" and putting your deposit into that university, but if USAFA comes through you still have the chance to tell that university "nah nevermind" and enroll at USAFA.

Me still sitting here waiting with no nom and have been under waiver review since January and nothing since then.

I received an LOA from West Point (not an athlete), 2 nominations to USAFA (Senator, Congressperson), Type 1 AFROTC Scholarship, but no USAFA appointment. Considering what else I was able to accomplish, I figured a USAFA appointment would be coming, but I'm getting more pessimistic by the day. I guess this just goes to show how important it is to have backup plans!

My DS also received Type 1 AFROTC during the 1st board. No updates on the 3 SAs. 2Q + MOC Nom. Hope the waiting ends soon. Yes, its a roller coaster of emotions - sometimes optimistic, sometimes pessimistic. Nothing to do but wait, hope and pray!

It's not over yet; don't give up. I'm in a similar situation to you. I also have an LOA from USNA, congressional nomination, Honor school AFJROTC nomination, and Type 1 AFROTC scholarship, but no USAFA appointment. I lost count of how many teachers, advisors, and administration have asked me where I'm attending after high school. Our senior awards and scholarship banquets are coming up next month, and I don't know what to put for them to announce during the events.

What is forcing this decision now? Does she have a deadline to accept from the other university? Why come so far into this process and walk away with a week or two left to go?
And how are you disappointed that this took so long? The timeline for appointments is a known quantity when you apply. There is nothing unusual about this year’s appointment timeline.
I am a Marine Spounse and Varsity Coach and over the past 4ish years, have had 5 kids appointed to different academies. I've done all their CAFs. None of their appointments have taken this long. She has a scholarship that she needs to accept or decline. I am very used to the hurry up and wait culture of the military as it's been most my adult life! LOL She may still get an appointment but the stress of not knowing, not being able to answer the most common question (where are you going to school?), graduation announcements being sent, university housing deadlines etc... she feels a sense of peace having made a decision. I realize that there are always appointments that come in late April & even May but my experience over the past 5 years with the other kids I've worked with is that the primary slate appears to be much later this year. It is what it is and she feels good about her decision. So that is why & how :)

the stress of not knowing
Life is all about uncertainty and how we cope with it.

not being able to answer the most common question (where are you going to school?)
Of course she can answer. "I've been accepted to X and tentatively planning to attend. I'm still anxiously awaiting word from USAFA." Done. That's an answer. Who wouldn't be satisfied with that?

graduation announcements being sent
Not important.

university housing deadlines
Put in a deposit. If a USAFA appointment comes, then respectfully inform the university that she will not be able to attend. Most universities are very understanding. Worst case a little money is lost.

she feels a sense of peace having made a decision
Deciding now really only buys a handful of "peace of mind" weeks before she'd find out anyway. Is this short relief really worth it?

Is there a sense for how many seats remain… and how many rejections have gone out. I get the wait but am curious if the remaining to be notified are all top contenders or are they holding on to the whole lot. Does anyone know impacts of accepting a 4 year rotc scholarship and then being accepted to an academy? - nwl USMA - 3Noms USAFA med qualified- 3.9 gpa 1450 Sat. - 4year t1 Air Force rotc due to accept May 1.

Absolutely accept your scholarship. You can turn it down later for an academy if appointed. Don't let your time run out on that ROTC scholarship. I would also recommend putting the deposit down on the University.

I find it odd that the parents group on FB only has 275 members. I understand that way more offers have been sent out and not everyone engages on social media but 2 months out from your son or daughter leaving and only 275 people? Every other class has 1k+.

I understand it’s a meaningless observation and I’m prior military so it doesn’t excite me too much but you better bet my wife would be all over that page. Maybe I’m just being overly optimistic but I feel like the next release will have most, if not all, of the appointments and rejections.

What Facebook page?

Recently emailed my ALO and told me they believed all USAFA appointments have been made. While throughout my time knowing this person, they have seemed a little pessimistic.

I also emailed Team Blue a couple of days ago and they said "All candidates will know, one way or the other, by the 21st"

I'd be lying if I didn't say I kind of believe him. Finding out good news, this late in the process, and close to the 21st "know by" date feels unlikely. Additionally, "all candidates", I'd imagine meant everyone, except a few who back out, decline, or get injured. But there's no true way to know til the 21st I guess.

If your ALO is correct then our district received zero appointments to any service academy. As of Monday our MOC told our DS that he has not been notified of any SA appointments for our district and that it could go into June. My DS was his principal nom to USAFA and we have heard nothing either way.
