USAFA Waiting Page C/O 2028

We’re in VA11. DD got her LOA for USAFA on 12/18 (has had LOA to West Point since Jan), and receive Kaine noms to both on 12/21.

Best of luck to you and your DS. I’m honestly not sure, if she gets a waiver, whether DD will go USAFA or do ROTC at Cornell…
Wow VA-11 is one of the toughest district and to have Sen Kaine noms speaks a lot about your DD. Cornell is one of the best university. So either way, she will get superb education. Congratulations to you and your DD!

VA-10 here...DS also has ROTC nomination and is "patiently" waiting!

MOC gave me notice of an LOA incoming. I still need a medical waiver. I have been medically DQ'ed for about two months now. Does anyone think this is a good sign I get an LOA after they know I am medically DQ'ed?

No appointments this week??
@Helen737 - There was one on the 22nd per
USMA is getting a lot of appointments today.

Congratulations on your son’s Appointment! We’re also from Ohio and anxiously waiting to hear from USAFA. Fingers crossed we hear something soon🤞

I have a question about this spreadsheet. Does the LOA/LOE column mean that on that date indicated they received and LOA/LOE, or does it mean they received an appointment on that date, but had received an LOA/LOE on some other date prior to receiving the appointment on the date listed?

I believe that the LOA section is just to specify if their appointment was based off of a LOA or not, and the date listed is the date that they received offer of appointment.

Hello, fellow parents. I'm seeking insight into the college admissions process. Despite my son's strong profile — valedictorian with a 4.36 GPA, all-state runner, student council president, National Honors Society member, impressive ACT scores, and a near-perfect CFA and application, plus Congressional and Senatorial nominations — he has not yet received an acceptance or Letter of Assurance (LOA) or FULL acceptance. Could anyone with experience or knowledge in this area offer clarity or advice on why this might be the case, even with such a robust application? Your positive, blunt, or straightforward input is greatly appreciated.

I cant say for sure because I do not know the exact admissions process, but I think part of it has to do with who he is competing with in the state? Or perhaps USAFA is still getting around to it. I think all of the letters of appointment going out right now are still the super early ones, and the majority of them do not come out until March or so?

USAFA historically gives out the majority of their appointments in March and April. While LOAs seem more abundant this year (possibly because there is a new Director of Admissions), they are still fairly rare so not having one really doesn't mean much.

Today, my son reluctantly accepted an early admission full scholarship to Stanford University and withdrew his application to the USAFA, which he was conflicted about as the deadline approached. Being from California, we are disappointed by what we perceive as the academy's diminished attention to detail in admissions, overshadowing the achievements of overqualified candidates. Despite his accomplishment in earning a piloting license and aspirations to fly, we feel a sense of emptiness with this decision but had to use his PLAN B, as we can no longer prolong accepting a full scholarship. Thank you to you all who replied to our questions. Best of luck to all your children waiting for their acceptance and not yet forced to make difficult decisions.

There are several anecdotes of applicants who accepted an offer/scholarship from a plan B school, later received a USAFA appointment, and were ultimately able to renege on the initial acceptance of the plan B offer with zero (or minimal) consequences. Diplomatically handled, this process is not as difficult as one might believe - and you may even be surprised to find how gracious other organizations can be when they find a student is leaving under special circumstances.

Perhaps it was not necessary to withdraw the USAFA application. I might go so far as reach out to the admissions office and ask for this action to be reversed. The majority of appointment offers are still forthcoming.
