USAFA Waiting Thread C/O 2027

TWE here also, dissappointed--yes. However, DS has several great options ahead of him, now the decision--accept USMA appointment? Attend 1st or 2nd choice university with either his AROTC or AFROTC scholarship (then reapply to USAFA for C/O 28)? Prior to last year he was West Point all the way, however then he attended the in-person SS at USAFA--it left a great impression on him, and he knew at that point that was what he wanted. He will excel in whichever path he chooses, now just need to sit down and discuss which path to go for. Definitely big decisions to think through.

Good luck to others that are still waiting for their "golden envelope" to show in their portal.
My DS is in the same boat. Just received his TWE. Does he go the Army route and accept his USMA appointment, or go the AF route with the ROTC scholarship to Texas A&M?

One thing to all the amazing candidates out there who might not be feeling like the amazing kids they are. Hang in there, there are many routes to success. Whether that is USAFA or another path. I have talked to many USAFA Cadets (Civil Air Patrol works security USAFA graduation) and I am always surprised at how many did not get an appointment strait out of high school.

Hang in there. God Bless.

My ds was thnking a lot about this last year before he got his USAFA appointment. He got an early USMA appointment and AFROTC scholarship which he would have taken to TAMU with the patriot scholarship. TAMU might have included another run at USAFA. He eventually decided on USMA over TAMU. That changed when he got his USAFA appointment but then it was a harder decision between USMA and USAFA than we initially anticipated.

We are still waiting. Do all TWEs notify via email or only on portal? I have been seeing many mixed messages.
Also, is anyone getting appointments at this point? I know people are humble and not saying if they are on this page, but at this date, what are the chances?

Nothing to hide my friend. I am on the global and happy to hear from others in the same shoes. Best of luck to all, my son believes those that got in are just better and I will not deter him (no matter what Dad really thinks). Im very bitter but it helps nothing to be angry and he has been accepted to another really great school in a great location and I really look forward to spending the entire summer together, lots of flying and traveling!
Not to give you too much hope but my DS also rcvd TWE (devastated!) in April then got an appointment early June. The stats for each entering class vary so much, C/O 2025 had much higher SAT scores and application numbers than 2026, for example. This might be in a "peak" year?! or just another very strong candidate in your nomination pool this one particular year? If he really wants USAFA, I'd also encourage him to reapply next year and talk with admissions.

Question on the TWE---Are there different variations of the rejection?

In reading DS's it indicates that he wasn't eligible for a prep school spot however in reading the commentary on this thread it seems that some do get prep school options later on.
Reflection..... News wasn't what DS hoped for—Plan B in place and moving forward with ROTC. As a parent, I can only say wow! What a process to watch him go through to even get through the application, interviews, etc... This forum has been so helpful as a parent to share and read others' successes and "plan B's". There are a lot of great future leaders out there and this forum serves as a window to some of those young men and women. The one thing that he continues to learn is that in life you will have successes but you will face rejection (and not just once). His reaction and how he handles the rejection is a testimonial to his intestinal fortitude and what he does with rejection will ultimately determine his success. I'm glad he's optimistic and keeping his chin up.. the sting will pass, the summer will end and college will start. Life continues and his military goals are still solidly in place. He may reapply, or he may not. His choice. Whatever he does we only care that he is happy, healthy, and following his passion in life which today means a goal of being a pilot and military officer. Thank you for this great forum! Good luck to all in your future endeavors. You are awesome!!

There hasn’t been any updates to the Appointment List since April 11th, so I’m guessing that everything going out is TWE’s. I’m hopeful someone here will soon say they’ve received an appointment!

Who would have ever suspected this would be so incredibly stressful?! I am torn between happy my DD hasn’t received anything yet and wishing they’d just get the bad news over with. That sounds awful I know but wow this is quite the experience.

This is exactly how I feel. The waiting these past few months has been painful. Can’t get excited for Plan B not knowing 100% that will be the plan. Can it just be the 21st yet?

Hearing a lot of the results today is making me have imposter syndrome. Some of you receiving TWEs are so incredibly impressive and I have no doubt you’ll do good at wherever you decide to go for the next year, and hopefully for those of you who reapply I’ll see next year. It took me 3 tries, I didn’t give up on my dream, and it paid off. No doubt if it’s something you want, you can too. Sorry to those of you who got bad news, still hold out hope for a possible prep school spot or falcon offer!

Im
An active duty USAF Colonel and my son just got his TWE. 2 nominations from congressmen in two states, a senator, and presidential nomination (4 total) Every interview he got lead to a nomination. Straight As since kindergarten, top 2% of his class and varsity baseball and wind ensemble (was in Macys parade in 2020). Being a fighter pilot was his dream. He was denied any ROTC scholarship and now no Academy.
I plan to put in my retirement paperwork tomorrow. I didn’t go to the academy and have probably had 20 of those folks working for me… you gotta know somebody just like most thing in life I guess. The USA is forgiving student loans for kids who drop out of school, yet kids who dream to serve their country are denied scholarships. I’ve enjoyed flying F16s T-38s and traveling across the world, I appreciated the ROTC and medical school scholarship and being a pilot physician but so wish they had given my son the same chance. I’ve never seen a kid so crushed and never hurt so bad myself….
Let me start this reply with I am not wearing my tin hat (currently). Also, my DS received his TWE yesterday. I want to be honest and allow anyone reading beyond this point to understand my motivation in this response. My DS is exceptionally qualified, and he checked every box that we are aware of. However, there are many similarly amazing DSs and DDs being mentioned in this thread, and I can identify areas where he could have improved his application. Still, realistically he did not lack in any area. He had MOC and Senator nomination for USAFA, 8 AP classes, 2 years of Calculus, great SAT, GPA, Class rank, 7 Varsity letters, Team captain for two different sports, crushed the CFA ....you get the picture. Many sons and daughters meet, and some exceed his achievements, and yet here we are, trying to understand why they received a TWE. For the last 2 hours, I have been combing the USAFA Academy forum, looking through all of the posts back to 2006 (yes, I am obsessed). I can't find a single year when so many amazingly qualified candidates were rejected (I didn't see many posts where people even mentioned their stats). I didn't find a single post in the last 3 years where anyone with your son's qualifications, or my son's, were reporting a TWE. Yet I have counted over 10 posts in this thread where a parent/applicant posts amazing achievements followed by a TWE.

At this point, I don't know what the SAs are looking for. I do know that outside of the SAs, there is a push to promote DEI at our local universities. The Supreme Court will release a ruling in June addressing Asian students v. Harvard admissions which is being watched closely by the admissions offices across the country. I saw a regression analysis of a University of California data set that showed acceptance positively correlated with certain zip codes and negatively correlated with others. There was also an analysis showing a positive correlation between lower California standardized test scores for English with acceptance to California universities (above a certain score, the applicant had a decreased probability of acceptance). My DS has friends who were AP students and weren't accepted into a single California University. We are living in strange times. I am leaving my tin hat on the table and will assume that nothing nefarious is happening and that the SAs will continue to be merit-based, but for this to be true, this year has to be a serious anomaly. On to PLan 1B!

Thank you for your service and enjoy your retirement!

What I "know" and $5 (!!) will get you a Starbucks coffee. But with that said, I remain convinced that a significant number of appointments remain. In fact, the pages of TWE posts underscore that a lot of admission/rejection activity is being captured on this forum. There is no reason I see or can think of to assume it's mysteriously down this year over the past 3-5 years. So I can only conclude that a lot of appointments remain (70+/190+, you do the math). FWIW, I think anyone who hasn't heard yet has reason to be hopeful.

But, that and half a sawbuck will get you a Starbucks venti . . . maybe.
