USCGA 2020 appointments

Wait listers have already been offered appointments, and there are still others declining, so no one should give up hope. I'm at CGA right now.
Thanks for keeping the hope. Other academies are still doing RA until 4/15 which means more chances of people declining. From historical perspective, the opportunity to get pulled from the waitlist does not end until a day or two into swab summer.

Good news!! Lets here some exciting new appointments soon!!

With all due respect, how do you know wait-listers have already been offered appointments?

I don't know that any RA waitlisters have been offered appointments yet, but at least four EA waitlisters listed on the forum were pulled into the last round of admissions. I think that's what people mean.

I believe the rest of us have received a letter indicating that the remaining EA waitlisters and new RA waitlisters are now in an "unranked" pool to be offered appointments based on matching similar traits of appointees who are declining appointments. From what I can tell, the CGA fills more spots off the waitlist than the other SAs, so we are remaining (reasonably) hopeful.

Is my understanding correct that until May 1 they take people just off the EA waitlist, and after May 1 it is a mix of EA and RA?

Thanks, @Next Generation. Makes sense. I suspect slots will start loosening up in the next few weeks. Wearing knee holes in the carpet ;)
And wearing out the tops of the toes on our shoes...

Looking at how things went down from last year's waitlist, it seems that a round of 10 appointments were offered May 1, with a few more expected but not reported on the forum. A letter saying that the waitlist was closed was sent out late May/early June. What I find puzzling is that the waitlist "closes," yet 11th-hour appointments are made within days before and even after R-Day.

Well, regardless of how it goes down, we are grateful that our Plan B is both solid AND easily dropped, so we feel we are in a good position to wait this out. I would love it if ALL our DSs/DDs made it in...

Because at least one was here this weekend. He came from CA and stayed with us Wed. night. Others from this forum have also come off of wait list.

That is not the impression I've received from past threads, the waitlist letter sent 3/30, and the reply she received 4/7 about accepting her waitlist spot. I know that is not what an early waitlister would like to hear, but I believe that when they sent out the waitlist notices to the RAs, that was the time when the EA waitlisters and RA waitlisters were placed in the same pool.

Not sure what their definition of "well rounded" is honestly.
My DS has thrived in music since he was in the 5th grade. Many awards, leadership as a captain, wind ensemble, marched for 4 yrs. High in the fine arts dept. and shown commitment and had a 2 yr leadership role.
Physically he has lettered 4 yrs in track and field, several metals and awards for the 800m, participated and won 2nd in age group in a triathlon, bmx racer for 6 yrs, ranked 20th in the nation, 2nd in state, swim team--shown commitment and is VERY physically fit.
Academically- 2 AP classes, 4 college classes (13 credits) , 3.8-3.9 gpa maintained for years., appointed to the National Honor Society and BETA Club--totally completed Chemistry, AP Physics and Calculus with A's---so pretty smart I think :)
Volunteers with special needs kids at school, swim coach for special Olympics state champs, church, Senate Page at the Atlanta Capital, assistant coordinator for the kids youth triathlon,-- has a heart and gives back to the community.
Meanwhile, held a part time job for 2 years as a life guard.
Again ACT scores were not the greatest though. What's stated online as the low score to apply, he did meet that though.
He attended AIM in 2014 at the age of 16 going into his jr. year of high school (oops)- So he has sat on this for two years and knew this is what he wanted to do. Apparently attending AIM is not weighted as much as one would think. (he showed leadership of his unit quite a bit on the eng. competition)
What he got out of AIM it was also suggested not to apply EA-- keep up your grades, involve yourself in sports--- but show commitment to what ever you do. Become a Leader, Captain, Co-Captain of something you are involved in. They wanted "well rounded". He did all that.
We were told that CGA preferred the candidate to walk in with Calculus completed, so he pushed, talked to his school and enrolled in college (duel enrollment) to graduate with what was stated. This is what he focused on after AIM.

If it's not in the cards, it's not in the cards..........yes, we are walking away scratching our heads though......... as I am sure many do if they don't get an appointment.

He will not re-apply- "their loss" he said. I think because he has NO idea what they are looking for (and you receive no feedback) and he made sure he positioned himself accordingly. He just wants to move on, hit college and military reserves now.

Posting this all as I know "I" went back to posts years prior to look at lists of potential candidates credentials and see how DS compared. So maybe this will help a potential candidate or his/her parents of c/o 2021 onward -----------:sadwavey: Good Luck everyone!

Well I am back here to update 4 yrs later .......

My son is in his 4th year at a major university as a Mechanical Engineer and 4th year as an AFROTC Cadet. He was awarded a full scholarship with a stipen for 4 yrs. He was commander of his detachment honor guard and marched for the university marching band last year, and hopefully this fall.

He was just awarded a pilot slot for 2021 after he graduates.

So never give up.

If you are truly in this because you want to serve, don't give up!

Yaaasssss! Wow! If your DS didn’t make it in, then what in the world!? Thanks for the update! My DS unfortunately turned down two D3 athletic scholarships and can’t get that back. BUT... he knew the chance he took and was awarded a great academic scholarship that was still available to him. I have to be honest and tell you that his dad and I are just fine with him sticking around a tad longer (we are fond of him) and watching him flourish locally in a great university. He has contacted the AROTC affiliated with the college and is excited again.
He was a varsity team captain, AP classes, lots of volunteering, honors student, never a second of getting in trouble, grandson of a CG pilot, but not in his cards. He will still press on the military route, but in a different way like your DS. I hope to have the same update in 4 years!

Division 3 does not have athletic scholarships.

Yes. This correct. They were “merit” based as a D3 cannot offer athletic scholarships (however the coaches have some influence on this). But he turned them down and has opted to stay in state with an academic scholarship in no way tied to sports.
