My scheduled interview for USCGA class of 2025 is coming up soon. Besides knowing general history of the academy, Coast Guard, and details for my intended major and sport, any suggestions on what to know before the interview? Also, besides general interview questions, what should I expect for my interview?

I got interviewed recently, I’m not sure how differently each interview is conducted but you generally need to focus on why you as a person will make a good addition to the CGA. Now thinking about it you might even be able to find the questions online somewhere, good luck!!

Okay, thanks for the suggestions. Best of luck for your admissions process as well.

Does every applicant get interviewed?
or is it some scale of only potential candidates get interviewed or even only highly qualified candidates?
Should the lack of interview be considered an ominous sign?
or should getting an interview request be an encouraging sign?

If you don’t get an interview don’t be worried. I applied early action and did not have an interview. However I was offered the CGAS program.

While I prefer to get in right away, I'd be thrilled with the CGAS program. I'll do whatever i need to do.
Congrats to you. Did you accept?

I had lower sat scores so I’m pretty sure that’s why I didn’t get direct. However I had a lot of ec’s and high grades. Good luck to you! Hope you get a direct appointment!! :)

Thank you. That is encouraging. I'm in a similar position. Low 1170 SAT, but good grades and lots of ECs with leadership, and community service. Funny thing is, I can do everything on the SAT, I just can't do it fast enough, and I fall for the trick questions.
Again, I be perfectly happy with CGAS.

Not every candidate receives an interview. My DS was never interviewed and received a CGAS appointment. He attended a Bears Day event as a baseball recruit, but never had an official interview.

The interviews are tricky. I never got requested for an interview during my early action application, but I was lacking in ACT and PFE (think 28 act, 170 pfe.) While waiting for my early action results I retested for both and scored a 31 and a 215 respectively. While it was too late to submit those scores for EA, I submitted them early-mid in January and was almost immediately requested for an interview.

On the interview side of things, out of all the interviews I have done this year, the cga interview was probably the most direct. They asked me a variety of questions like "Why CGA?" "Why Coast Guard" to questions about leadership and mentorship.

During my CGA interview, I remember being asked what book I was reading at the moment. That was the only curve ball I received. Otherwise, yeah, it was very direct.

Hi! I'm currently at CGA and I remember my interviewer saying that the interview was just to make sure you actually wanted to go to the Academy. They wanted to weed out the kids who's parents were just making them come or were applying to CGA maybe as a backup school and had no interest in the Coast Guard. Just seem passionate and know why you want to be in the Coast Guard! I also remember them asking "what is the hardest thing you've ever dealt with and how did you overcome it?".

Quick update... I had my interview earlier tonight. Thank you everyone for all of the tips and suggestions. I feel the interview went really well. All that's left now is DoDMERB exams starting this week & evaluations later. Lots of prayers & waiting!
