USCGA Class of 2023 Waitlists

Three cadets at Marion Military Institute (MMI) who where Waitlisted got at Wednesday evening their Appointment Certificate as a surprise after they graduated from the Service Academy Program (SAP) as Self Prep Students with foccus on USCG - SAP program. They took the same classes as the 25 or so USCGA sponsored cadets, plus additional sport and leadership activities to make themself stand-out. This brings it to 6 accepted self-prep students accepted to the class of 2023 coming from MMI.

Also as additional information it was mentioned that not all "USCGA Sponsored " cadets got this year an appointment, not sure how many failed and why. In addition six self-prep students who partly where there for their 2nd year also did not received an appointment.
So going to MMI is an option if you failed this year to get an appointment, but you need to be ready to work hard as the 3 cadets who moved from the Waitlist had all A and B's in Calculus, Physics, Chemistry, English, Military Science; had extra leadership roles or extra activities or archivments on their records.

Wow, thanks for the info. Just out of curiosity, what is your relationship to these students?

To clarify things, one of the three Waitlisted cadets is my DD. The information provided was from the MMI staff.
The following is from my DD's perspective, not mine. "Going to MMI requires to take many sacrifices. From being in hot humid Alabama doing your daily workouts, studying every day till late in the night, no weekends as you need the time to study or catch up on sleep, being 40 miles away from nearest shop (Walmart) or Starbucks, limited internet access and tough academic classes. Plus extra curriculum activity like playing a sport or being in Marching Band and/or Honor Guard and/or Cadet leadership cadre. Basically, as a self-prep, you are having close to 18 hour days like it will be at the Academy, however, up to the very end, you do not know if you will make the cut. However, the good part is that you have excellent staff and professors who know to get you there and support you, you have a great team of cadets where 2/3 of the SAP cadets will go to any of the 5 Service Academies and you make friends for life. You work with some of the finest young men and woman at MMI's SAP program and become friends. However, going there is still no fun and you really need to know that you have to give up a lot and you have to give everything because there is nothing else you want to do in life. "
