So happy to see so many fine young people represented on the list above (as well as the CGAS list).

32 reporting on SA Forum out of 189 admitted = 17%. Pretty good representation!

This forum has been immensely helpful to our family during this whole process.

Agreed. We have had huge support from others on this forum and that has really helped during a stressful process. I think DS was a little shell-shocked yesterday when he got the phone call offering him CGAS. He can now relax over the holidays and let the reality sink in.

Agree with that. It has been a long process. Over the past year, this forum provided insight and guidance throughout the process. And, let's be honest, sometimes it was just nice to have others to worry with. Cheers to a new adventure.

DS was rejected. SAT of 1350 (680/670). 3.8 GPA. Lots of honors classes. Two AP classes including calculus. Varsity football and baseball. School musical. Letter from Academy staff/coach on file. Catholic prep school with lots of leadership. Third generation coast guard, fifth generation veteran. Totally stunned.

For the kids accepted, did any of you have lower scores? Trying to get my head around why a kid like this was rejected?

Huh?!!! That is a stunner....I would talk to AO after holidays.

Keep in mind - he was not offered an appointment THIS YEAR. There simply isn’t room for all these superbly qualified candidates. He can proceed with his alternate plans. If this is what he wants, he will kick butt in the coming year, and will try again. Re-applicants are not a rarity at any SA.

Lastly, successful applicants may well have lower scores, but what you can’t see is what else outside of academic stats they brought to the table and how those elements were scored.

Completely agree. Every year there are multiple threads asking "What are my chances" the only honest answer one can give is that you can't really say. So much is taken into account when SAs make the decision on whether to offer an appointment or not.

So, not that it would make you feel any better. My son has higher SAT's and GPA. Seven AP classes, sports, leadership, musician, etc. Large public HS, but among the best in the US, etc. Also a long history of veterans in the family. Did get direct admit EA to USCGA, but did NOT get AROTC Scholarship First Board. he was also a bit stunned with that outcome. It just really speaks to the COMPLETELY RANDOM perceived nature of the admission process for SA's and scholarships. I feel however there are things we don't see (such as teacher/counselor recommendations, perception of essays, etc.), as parents that may impact these admission decisions.

Did he attend AIM?

Was locked out of AIM also. Was told AIM was for kids who don’t know what the Academy or CG is about. He’s third generation. He knows.

It does make me feel better to hear that your child’s scores are higher.

any acceptances that were lower?

i got the alumni bulletin last month and his scores were upper 75% for the class for the class of 2023. Its part of why i am shocked.

I don't know who told you that but it just isn't correct. My DS had several visits to the Academy and knew what it was about, however AIM gives people a very realistic experience of what Swab summer is like. IMO that is invaluable for these young men and women to understand what they are getting into and also give the academy the opportunity to see how these possible future cadets will handle the experience.
 
Yeah, I kind of agree with sanman as well. My DS had a lot of previous military/academy experience with multiple family members at academies.
He also went to USAFA Summer Seminar and said it was a "joke" compared to AIM. In his opinion, going to AIM pushed the USCGA up higher on his preferred list and (sadly) dropped the USAFA into 4th place. Heck, I could've told him that the USAF was kind of a country club...that's why his old man picked it.

I have watched and been so excited watching all of the acceptances for the last few weeks and this morning DS opened his portal to a CGAS appointment! We are beyond excited, he has wanted this since he was 10 and it truly shaped the way he lived. Thank you all for how supportive and informative this forum is... as you can see from my profile I’ve been here for 5 years, and as someone who has no real military knowledge I’ve learned so much! Merry Christmas everyone!

DS came home from AIM referring to the AF as the chair force so the AIM cadre must’ve trash talked USAFA pretty successfully 😂😂

Bad news for us this morning. DS rejected. Little surprised, but understand that the applicant pool is filled with great candidates. DS has 3.95 unweighted, class rank 3 of 210, 1400 SAT, 230 PFE, Boys State, Varsity Football Captain x2, Honor Society President, FFA, District school board student rep, outside employment, community service, great recs, interview went very well (we thought).

DS is taking it much better than us. Congratulations to all those selected and their families. We know this is a long road...

I feel for you and your DS. He sounds like a great candidate but I don't think anyone can predict who will get appointments and who won't.
