USCGA Class of 2024 Appointment Thread

When my DD/DS gets dropped off this Summer, I:

A) ....will cry endlessly for about a month.
B) ....won't be as sad as choice "A" BUT I will walk around their bedroom like a lost puppy, constantly picking up their belongings and reminiscing.
C) ....won't do either A or B but I will constantly refresh PDuddys photo posts for a single glimpse of my kid.
D) ....will miss them, for sure but this isn't my first rodeo. I am all good after the drop off.
E) ....will be like, "Later Tater! Get your stuff and out ya go! VACAY is calling my name and I am leaving on a jet plane!"
F).....have absolutely no idea because I don't know what happens, how it happens, when they leave or how I will react.

Me: I am D and E, combined. And, I'll do "C" while on Vacay. Gotta be honest - this mom is ready for a B.R.E.A.K. Just keeping it real! After sending my boys to Cape May (CG enlisted bootcamp) and then watching my DD go through the entire CGA app process? All I want is sunshine, wine and some sleep. I cannot be the only one who feels like this process and experience totally kicked my A**. :biglaugh:

I am wondering what comes first, the appointment or the Dodmerd medical exam request?
 
Do you know what percent of the applicants get appointments after getting a clear medical exam? I also understand results for the medical test take from 2-4 weeks. I am having problems getting my Dodmerd results, as It states I need to create a new account. Suggestions on who I should contact to take care of this as, I have called and emailed the information given and it states it will take 1-2 weeks to get a response.

Not always true, though. My DD didn't receive hers until after they offered her an appointment. Based on what I gathered from this forum I wrongly assumed that she wasn't in the running for anything because she never received a Dodmerb Request. Then, she received her phone call. The following week she received her request. LOL I was so confused! There doesn't seem to be a clear pattern.
 
So, at this point in March receiving the medical request in mid February just means I might be a highly competitive applicant to still receive an appointment, but won't hear anything until April 1st? I was hoping the medical request might mean an appointment soon. Anyone else in the same position?
 
If you had DoDMERB for another SA done does CG have access to that? She was DQ but got a waiver from USAFA should we expect a similar process from CGA?

Yes - the DODMerb gets tied to all service academy applications. When DS went through his it had three separate lines for each of the academies he applied to. And his applications were not all submitted at same time. I think it triggered first off USNA based on percent complete.

Congrats to all who have been accepted! Just out of curiosity, for those of you who were notified by a coach, what was the extent of your communication with USCGA coaches before you got the call? Did your coach recruit you before you began the application process, or did you first engage with coaches after you began the process?

I actually reached out to the cross country/track coach after my cadre said that I should contact him after attending AIM. I had the opportunity to talk with him in person while I attended the genesis invitational, then we stayed in contact throughout cross country season and on.

Every Story is different but here is DS's to the best of my recollection:

VERY early my DS completed the "Recruit Me" form for both Football and Track- 10th Grade early.
He was willing to compete for either or both sports at CGA. Since CGA was his dream school, he was certain to reach out to the coaches anytime he was visiting- Admissions Visit, Bears Day etc. He was paired with a football player for Bears Day- first good sign to us.
He met the both Coaches during Bears Day- March of his Junior year, and they acknowledged he was on their radar, so to speak.

Only after DS's application was complete for EA did things heat up.
He started to receive personal e-mail's from the HFC and Coordinators. By Cadet for a Day overnight, Fall of Senior year -it was clear that football was interested and the conversation became more two way but DS was still leading the converstion and updating the Coach with film, etc....at Coach's bidding of course. It was around this time that DS realized that it looked like it was going to be football and not track if he were to get in and we all became VERY excited at this opportunity. Track simply wasn't biting- no hard feelings what-so-ever, we know the drill. His CFAD Overnight paired him again with Football and he attended practice- prep for MMA! and once again met with Coaches.

On 12/13 he received a call and text from a Football Coach with whom he was acquainted informing DS of his appointment. since that time, the Coaching staff have reached out to him just checking in which is nice.

DS is thrilled to play Football for the Bears and will be a WR or DB, TBD. As Coach said- "I'll let the Coaches fight over you." Very cool.

A slightly different experience for my DS: He filled out the "Recruit Me" form for track the winter of his junior year before Bears Day but never heard back. On Bears Day, his cadet offered to take him to track practice, so he went and said hi to the coach afterward. The coach told him that if he could hit a certain time that spring, he'd be good. DS hit the time, then continued working hard and staying in touch with the coaches. Like @cave9269's DS, he was able to attend practice again at CFAD and talk more with the coaching staff. He got the acceptance call in December from his AO, with whom he's been in a lot of contact, but then also an email of congratulations from the coach. He has continued since then to stay in touch. So DS did not seem to be a hard recruit, but rather someone whom the coach welcomed to the team. I'm not sure if all this is because track is just a different animal than football or other sports, so ymmv. Good luck!
 
I've noticed that a significant part of the current appointment list is made up of recruited athletes. Do recruited athletes typically received their appointments before regular applicants?

Most recruited athletes put in for EA and are in the EA selection pool so they receive there appointments the same time as everyone else in EA or Regular admission depending on what group they submitted there application in.
 
In my experience, yes. It pertains to things like national signing day for each sport and in the recruiting world, you need to lock up commitments fast or quickly move down your list. Top prospects are in demand by many schools and you need to get the written commitments secured. For USCGA, a high percentage of the class are recruited athletes - just simply mathematically which has convinced me that USCGA is extremely difficult to get into for non-athletes. I understand that is a broad statement, but we have captured the math in other posts here. Each racial and gender category has very few slots when you break it down and when you layer over top of it the need for athletic recruits, the seats are very very few in reality when compared to the big 3 Service Academies.
