I know that my son just requested to join the FB group for class of 2025 earlier today. Don’t think the request has been approved yet. He didn’t have a FB profile (not a social media guy) so it took him awhile to get around to it. So I can say for sure that not everyone who’s been offered an appointment has joined the FB group.

Not likely that year over year USCGA appoints 185-190 during EA, but this year only approximately 1/2 that many EA appointments offered. Equally unlikely that 50% of appointees posted their appointments on the forum. Granted that a pandemic could change the CGA approach to a degree, but the number of appointments posted on this board is consistent enough with prior cycle posting to indicate that this is a pretty typical year.
Where did you get that 185-190 EA number, dddad? As an FYI. there are only 201 class of 2024 members. https://www.facebook.com/groups/uscga2024
Objee’s prior posts and consolidation of same to this forum suggest 185-190. This year 350 appointments expected. Typical class begins with closer to 300 than 200. I have not reviewed the FB group referenced.

What does 'Rated Performing Artists' mean in regards to USCGA admissions, and are they actively recruiting musicians (or other artists)?

My cadet was not recruited for band but he did meet with the band director and provided him his band credentials just as an athlete would provide stats to a coach. Then band (and other performing arts directors) can put in a supporting word for the cadet (same as coaches do for a sport). It’s just one piece in the application puzzle but it was nice to see it listed as a category.
My DS emailed the POC for the bands but never received a response...at this point it is moot for admissions but hopefully he can continue his musical pursuits at the Academy.

I'm sorry to hear that you didn't hear back. The Windjammers always needs musicians, and it counts as a sport in the fall. My cadet has enjoyed playing with them this year, though it's not at the same level his high school band was (it's not like they have a lot of time to practice

As parents we just want to make sure he has the instrument needed there since his current primary instrument belongs to his high school. Yes we are from Fairfax VA (there are quite a few cadets from NoVA). CGA does provide large instruments like those you would rent from the school. Cadets with smaller instruments like trumpets brought those to Day 1 and they were stored for them until needed for rehearsal.
I know that the academies have bands and I think I saw somewhere USCGA has a concert band...my DS plays the stand-up bass in his philharmonic orchestra at school; my wonder is, any maybe you do not know, but is there a bass position in the concert band or is it only jazz band? DS is one of the top bassists in our state and would like to continue to play. We are in the beginning stages of reaching out to specific folks at CGA.

My DS is in the CGA jazz band and concert band. There are bass positions in the jazz band, concert band, and orchestra. The jazz band is both semesters, while the concert band is only in the spring. The concert band is not a stand alone CGA band and thus combines with the Connecticut College concert band. The orchestra is a new group at the academy that is still trying to solidify. Last semester, there were a few orchestra practices but the group ran out of time to actually record or play any music.
