USMA Application Quick Question

For CFA (I'm taking it this Friday, hope for the best!), let's say my PE teacher submitted the score the day of the test. And let's say I wanted to do better and decided to take it again after holiday break (very early January). Is my PE teacher allowed to resubmit the scores? Or will he have to email the USMA admission team to update it?

Also, for CFA videos (on the instruction, it says anyone (ex. a friend) can record it), am I suppose to meet the exact number that I did during the CFA?

Finally, I know this is on the USMA website already, but how long do CFA take? I'm actually taking the test before the school? Assuming the test is going on quickly, how long would it take (based on your experience)?

Thank you and any help would be greatly appreciated!

I may be wrong, but I believe that the videos of your events are supposed to come from your CFA attempt directly.

The CFA should take more than 35 minutes. The first five events and breaks of the CFA are supposed to follow strict time limits. So the basketball throw, pull-ups, shuttle-run, sit-ups, push-ups, and the breaks in between should finish at 30 minutes' time. The last event will be the mile run and will obviously add to those 30 minutes. Then you have to take into mind the time needed to set up, and clean up too. So a good estimate of time would probably be like around 40 minutes if you need to set up and clean up a little too or 36 minutes if you just take the test and leave.

Good luck on the CFA too!

@AmazingOne1, if you don’t like your CFA scores, then don’t submit them. You’re not required to submit them just because you did the CFA.

The video must be of your actual CFA in action, so of course the numbers will match your reps. Of course, USMA requires the video to ensure your form is strict, so they’re the final arbiter of how many you did.

The instructions are explicit about how long the CFA should take, particularly the rest times. Adhere strictly to those times.

My DD took the CFA without taking video. After submitting the scores to USMA she contacted her USMA admissions person. Admissions person confirmed that videos can be taken seperatly from the actual CFA. The amount of repetitions should be the same that she did on her CFA test. Admissions email also said if she performs less than she did on actual CFA, they would have to take the lower score. That’s the answer she received from USMA admissions a month ago.

My DS took the CFA a few months ago. He didn't like the first attempt, so his Phys Ed teacher agreed to wait and try it again the following week. He did better and submitted those scores. I videotaped both attempts and although his form looked better in the first attempt, I submitted the one he performed with the second attempt. Seems unethical to separately record a session of pull-ups outside the sequence of the CFA.

DS's PE teacher mistakenly uploaded his scores to USAFA when DS was doing a trial. They had a miscommunication. DS's admissions officer had to authorize him to retake it and have his portal reset to accept new scores.

I don’t think that official USMA admissions officer’s response is unethical. If they give permission to submit separate video which is recorded at different time, then that is not unethical. Besides, my DD did not take video because she was taking the CFA for other academy which does not require videotaping. Since the results were better than she was hoping for, she decided to submit the scores to all academies she is applying for.

I think you misunderstood my response, just as I misunderstood how your CFA was conducted without a video. It's clear that if a Physical Education teacher is administering the CFA, the pull-ups and push-ups are recorded at that time.

I think since the videos are intended to be filmed during the CFA, you should definitely not plan to do the videos separately. The responses from admissions officers are for people who have already taken the CFA and forgot to video for some reason. As a future military officer, your goal should not be to evade the rules.
