The original question was Not the deadline to accept an offer of appointing.

The question is “what triggers a BFE” to be mailed out via snail mail ..... A BFE event is dependent on the applicant Accepting the offer of appointment. The sooner that the applicant accepts the appointment, the sooner that he/she receives the BFE.

I’ve seen photos of applicants holding two or even three BFE’s from different Service Academies so I‘m certain you are mistaken. My DS received his BFE before he accepted via the portal. You have until May 1 to accept at USMA. I also remember the photo of dozens of BFE being mailed by admissions all the same day. The BFE is a tool to influence the candidate to accept the offer.

Wow .... I was never aware of this tactic being used to sway the outcome.

Are you sure that this “preemptive BFE” doesn’t say “you are being given Offer of Appointment” ... instead of ... “thank you for Accepting your offer of appointment ...”?

Yes a BFE is sent out to everyone who receives an offer of appointment, each SA will send out roughly 1400 each year.
 
My DS has been accepted to USMA, however he hasn't clicked the accept on his portal as of yet and no BFE has arrived via snail mail. So just curious if my DS has to accept in order to receive the BFE. Sounds like the BFE should eventually arrive...

Yes it will arrive. Holidays and Covid are contributing factors in the delay I’m sure
 
Last cycle our DS received three BFE's, all prior to accepting any appointment. Each was very nice in it's own way. WP even through in a mock graduation cap to sweeten the pot and entice the candidate. In the end he chose salty Annapolis. Somewhere I have tucked away the nice appointment certificates. It was fun to see him open them and it a great memory of mine.
 
Accepting an appointment does not trigger the BFE. BFE's are sent on USMA Admission's schedule for sending BFEs. Sometimes your congressman will call, other times the portal will update, and other times the BFE will arrive at the house unceremoniously--and if it does not fit in the mail box, it will be left on the front step in the rain like an Amazon package. There is no one way that this happens but it has nothing to do with accepting the appointment.

My LOA appeared in my portal on August 4th, and I was sent a confirmation email from my RC on August 5th. On November 23rd, I received a call from my Congresswoman notifying me that I had received an appointment; a few hours later on that very day, my BFE arrived in the mail. I have not accepted yet.

If you receive an appointment you will receive a BFE regardless of accepting any appointment.

My son had the exact same experience. He was 3Q in November. We randomly checked his portal the first week of December and he was offered admission. He got his nomination through service connection (presumably). We never did hear back from any MOC offices. Assume they were notified he was already offered admission since we had not even reached their deadlines for notifying nom candidates.

DS was notified via the portal on 12 December which was a Saturday. Then received a letter from MOC on 17 Dec. about the nomination but the portal only shows his JROTC nom. so I guess they'll use the MOC nom. somewhere else??
 
DS has had an LOA since October. 3Q letter in November and his nomination appeared in the portal today. Any timing expectations for appointment communication or should he just smile and wait for the gears to turn as they will?
