USMA Class of 2017 Acceptance Thread

NN&B,

Yes, all qualified letters say that, so you are fine! Great job if you received one! And a qualified letter means that you are fully qualified to attend West Point (or you have all 3 q's)

NN&B,

Yes, all qualified letters say that, so you are fine! Great job if you received one! And a qualified letter means that you are fully qualified to attend West Point (or you have all 3 q's)

Thanks for the info. Congratulations again.

All fully qualified candidates (3Q w/ nom) are placed on the NWL, but it is not like a normal college where you have a standing on the list. Since each nomination source is its own competition, it just doesn't work that way. To have an accurate picture of standing on the NWL, all the files possible would have to be fully qualified (medical statuses for some candidates will update over the coming month) and all the mandated vacancies (MOC, Presidential, etc) offered and accepted.

First offers sent were for Soldiers and some recruited athletes throughout the fall and winter (<100).

First waive - congressional offers that could be determined (around 500 of the likely 600 figuring at least 1/each MOC- 435 + 100 senators +DC, PR, Guam, etc and several using more than 1). There are still many congressional districts where a winner could not be determined since the competition is too close, or someone is still waiting on medical.

Second waive - probably in early March when more of the congressional vacancies can be resolved, plus Presidential and the top of the NWL.

From there on out, it will likely be a few each week as statuses update and individuals decline until the final big waive when the current candidates at USMAPS are reviewed and offered - late April/May.

Offers have the potential to go out up till rit before R-Day. They always do, but most should have a final resolutions by mid/late March.

SLS/SLE is not a requirement.

Push Hard, Press Forward

Tug_boat is correct on this.
When DS applied for SLS/SLE last year his SAT scores were average. He was not accepted into 2012 SLS. Since then his scores have gone up and received an LOE in Dec. and his 3Q letter in January.

By the way, DS received an email from his RC today responding to DS request to add information to his candidate portal. RC gave insight that this weeks appointments did not include those with Presidential noms or on the NWL.B] We realize that he is telling us that DS was not an MOC slate winner so if he did not receive anything this week not to be worried. DS has a Pres. Nom and being 3Qd, is on the NWL. He said more appointments will be going out soon but did not give a time frame.
I feel DS has a very strong WCS. If he gets an appointment my husband (USMA77) says it will probably be through his Pres. Nom and oh, by the way, those are usually given out at the end!!!

Candidates, please do NOT think it is the end of the road if you do not receive anything this week. The military is all about being prepared and then waiting, and waiting and waiting.... Work on your backup plan while waiting.

Here is DS stats just in case you want to compare and many of you have stronger stats.
3.87 U, 4.25W 48/351 (after 7th semester) improved class rank by 10
SAT 770M and 630CR
Boys State
Some volunteer for church but concentrated on fundraising for WWP. Last year he raised close to $4000 for WWP.:thumb:
Currently in 4th yr varsity lacrosse and current team captain
That's it- no NHS, no offices

This first wave of offers is clearly:

1. The Congressional Vacancy Winners (P-Noms or the West Point determined P-Noms for those MOCs that presented an unranked slate)
2. Top Ranked Presidential nominees
3. Some Diversity Nominations
4. Recruited atheletic nominees
5. Selected top quality Active duty and Reserve nominees

The selections from the NWL will be done next. This might take a few weeks to complete.

In short - if you were not the P-Nom (either selected by the MOC or WP) then you will probably NOT hear anything this month.

In my opinion - if you got an LOE you will probably(not 100%) get an offer sooner or later

How many appointments are going to go out this week then?

hmza....am I reading your post correctly, no one on the NWL will receive a BFE this week? I thought all 3 Q'd letters said you were on the NWL. BTW....congrats to your DS on his Math SAT....awesome score!!!!

That is what DS was told in email today but who knows?! From @845something's post maybe soon thereafter.

@t&omom

3Q +nom = NWL
All the same nominations type (your MOC for example) compete for a specific offer. Those that don't win it, stay on the NWL.

So yes, all the offered candidates came off the NWL, but they won a specific vacancy versus an at large national spot.

Approximate filling of the class:
600 (ish) MOC
85 active Soldier
85 reserve Soldier
100 Presidential
20 ROTC (junior and senior)
15 Sons/Daughters of Deceased/100% Disabled Vets
The remainder up to the 1200 class size are national spots...some of these will need to be held for USMAPS candidates, but many should be offered in March once the above are resolved.

@845something....thanks for breaking that down. I hadn't read your first post when I wrote my first comment. Guess we won't stalk the mailman this week! :thumb:

No since someone with a presidential nomination could very likely win a congressional spot as they may have those nominations as well. MOC take precedence over Service Connected nominations.

I just saw that in my blue correspondence box they spelled admissions without the "i" haha. Just thought it was funny:yllol:
