USMMA Class of 2027 Waiting Room & Hangout

My son got his letter of appointment today (via FedEx.) He hasn't received any other communication. Because he has to report for INDOC so soon - could someone tell me where the links are for the packing list and other necessary information? Any help is greatly appreciated!
Have him go onto the portal he applied on and accept his appointment, and as a parent I recommend joining the Facebook group “USMMA Class of 2027 Parents-KP official”. They will get you up to speed pretty quickly.

There is also a Facebook group for the candidates that has been set up but it is not official. “USMMA CLASS OF 2027”

Back up to pages 10 & 11, lots of good info. Page counter should be slightly above the lower left corner in case you are not familiar with the site

Congratulations and welcome to the Kings Point family! Take a deep breath. They will be pretty lenient with your DS because his appointment was so late. You can find the Logging in Packet on the USMMA.edu website with a simple search. Purchase the personal gear male and break in the tennis shoes. Order the available packages for plebe kit and education kit (deck or engine) and that will save a lot of time and hassle. All those items that you order should be waiting for him in his room when he arrives. The added benefit is that he will not have to lug so much stuff around with him when he reports. Make sure he fills all the paperwork out and that he keeps a separate copy of everything to bring with him and that you keep a separate copy at home. Apply for his passport and TWIC. They may not arrive before he leaves, but at least get the process started. Please write again if you have questions. Do a few things each day and he will be good to go.

Links to social media aren’t permitted on these forums but the link to the 2027 candidates FB group can be made by going to a Facebook page, logging in, and in the search field put “USMMA CLASS OF 2027” without the quote marks.

Does anyone know any good brands of sock that would fit the description for what they asking for in the personal gear section? I don’t understand what they mean by trim. Also, do y’all know where I could find myself some predominantly white shoes? The places I went to didn’t seem to have them for some reason.
We got Gildan Men's Compression Crew Socks from Amazon last year. They come in 12-packs and are all white/no trim and comfortable.

For undershorts/compression shorts, are boxer briefs acceptable? Also, I had gotten some compression shorts (McDavid is the brand) from Walmart and was wondering if those are good? If not, any brands of either under or compression shorts that y'all would recommend?
McDavid is a good brand.

"All white/no trim" means socks like Nike that have a visible logo aren't not allowed.

Some current parents hopefully will chime in but see what you can do to find a document called Logging In Class of 2025. Email the admissions office if needed, and the sooner the better. Open the link Logging In Class of 2025 which is the document for Class of 2025 and yours will be very similar. Note that within that document is a way to buy a reporting in “kit” that will be issued by the on facilty exchange on reporting day. There is also a section covering personal effects needed. LASTLY, and most important your DS will need a TWIC card and a passport. Seek out those sections in the Logging In document.

At this late in the game, I suspect your DS is an alternate to someone that declined their appointment at the last minute. I would hope the Academy will cut you some slack. Find an admissions contact and develop a relationship, the sooner the better.
Thank you so much! He has his passport and TWIC as one of the State Maritime Schools was his Plan B (and C). Thank you for your help!

Appointment has been accepted! I am waiting to be accepted into the parent's group. My son doesn't do any social media, so that is out, but that you for letting me know about both!

Thank you so much! We did try the website, but all we could find was 2026, but then I found out that they don't change much and that we could t least start with that (shoes, socks, etc.) School said more info would arrive Fed Ex.

GREAT help on keeping copies of documents at home as well as sending with him! He has his passport and TWIC. Thank you again for your help!

Yikes, I did a double negative (senior moment). Meant to say socks with a visible logo are NOT allowed. In general, don‘t do anything that will make your DD/DS stand out while in a group.

Be aware that your DS may have to sign up for social media accounts. At least in my DS's (2013) and DD's (2021) time, that is how the plebes and midshipmen communicate with each other. They set up groups by company, class, etc. We had a no social media rule at our house while they were at home. You may find that apps like Facebook messenger provide the easiest opportunities for you to communicate with your plebe until he earns cell phone privileges and also during sea year.

Thanks for that information! We had no phone restrictions. My son just had a friend cyber-bullied and decided he didn't want to be any part of it. Good idea on FB messenger. Do you know what apps the students use primarily? I understand how useful they are for communication! I have an enlisted Marine; Messenger and Snap Chat are the primary means of communication.

The concern is about visibility, correct? Are the 'gold toes' ones OK?
Visibility “yes”. Regardless of the brand, 100% white in what is visible above the shoe. Your DS is likely to log 10 miles a day between marching, running and calisthenics. Comfort is key. In that regard you will see many people say break in the shoes prior to arrival. Heed that advice!

Thank you so much! I know it says 1 pair of shoes, but someone said to send pair. Will he get in trouble for bringing 2 pairs of running shoes (wearing one and bringing one)?

I would bring only one pair. You can always send a second pair after INDOC or your plebe can grab them on break. One related extra item I would suggest is a pair of insoles to help cushion your DS's soon-to-be very tired feet.

The guidelines for the shoes indicate "predominantly white". As you can see from the attached photo, extracted from a recent Logging In book, the shoes are almost all white. By the way, I would not want to be the 3rd person from the front with the grey shoes. Nike makes a shoe called a Nike Revolution 6 that is virtually all white, even the Nike logo. New Balance also has a predominantly white shoe (New Balance® Fresh Foam Sport v4) I'm not suggesting either shoe however; comfort will be a key factor. If your DS has a favorite shoe from high school and it is available as all white, that would be a strong recommendation. But if you purchase something new, break them in!
