He also gave the eulogy for John Paul Jones when his remains were re-interred in the Crypt beneath the Chapel at USNA.

I really got into the history of President Theodore Roosevelt during and after my tour on the CVN that bears his name. Laid a wreath on his grave and toured his home in Sagamore Hill. He was a phenomenal family man, leader and President. This is by far one of my favorite quotes of his.
I always liked flying to “The Big Stick” when she was in the Med. Saw her in Naples and in Rhodes. TR always treated us well. It must have been the Stars and Stripes, yellow and red bags plus assorted boxes coming off our helicopter.

This just gave me a flash back to my own plebe summer when we had to memorize this! Hoping my stepson has the opportunity this summer as well! Thanks for sharing as we continue to wait for news! :)

Sooooo, I kind of had my hopes up that there would be a flurry of activity on this thread when everyone woke up this morning! Darn - I should have known better & not gotten my hopes up 🤦🏻‍♀️. T -6 days..... I know DS will thrive wherever he’s meant to be - need to keep reminding myself that! Have a great Friday everyone!
 
Maybe we'll see more activity by lunch time. I am thinking that the Academy will be busy making updates after 9am when they show up to work. I have no idea how/when things get uploaded but in my head it's all manual so more likely to happen during business hours. Although it would be awesome for it to be like Christmas morning with lots of updates first thing... The only thing that's given us comfort is that we have a solid back up plan already set. I think we're very lucky but this wait is still keeping me full of butterflies and angst.
 
For the people waiting for a waiver, my son was as well and reached out to admissions. They got back to him and let him know that he had actually already received it. It just didn't show up anywhere. A few weeks later, he got a letter hardcopy saying his waiver was approved. Still not sure if it show up anywhere in the system (or then a checkmark for medical in his portal).
 
So the wait is finally over. DS received his nominations in November. Finished all requirements by the end of January except for the medical. Finally on April 1st he received the email with the medical request. Found out yesterday that his medical eval is on the 23rd. I was ready for another long wait but DS received a conditional appointment this morning. It's been a tough wait for these parents.

I am envious of those that although you feel like you've been waiting FOREVER really haven't. My DD finished her app in Sept, got a nom in Nov, medically cleared early Dec. I know she's not the only one with this time line but it makes me laugh when I read that some people are frustrated that they turned in their paperwork Jan/Feb.... Don't be mad at me for saying it. I'm just a bitter old lady. 😂 😂 😂 I wonder if her folder fell behind a bookcase and it'll be discovered 10 years from now when they move offices...

I'm super excited for those getting LOAs and appointments (REALLY!). The 15th with a decision either way can't come soon enough. Although in 2020/2021 fashion, I wouldn't be surprised if that day comes and goes with no update.

BTW - we just watched "Annapolis" last night. Has anyone else seen it? I liked the story but some things made me laugh. Hey - I never knew there was a shipyard right across the river!

💯! I agree when Plan B is so solid it’s a good feeling. I know he’s just wanting a yes *or* a no so we can move on 😉..... sounds crazy but a good buddy of his is waiting to commit to the U of I 💙🧡 because he wants to know if DS will be there & wants to room w/ him. This has a total ripple effect 😂.....

Not to be negative but until the medical (and any waivers necessary) clears, the wait needs to continue. LOAs are great, but not "done deal" yet. Good luck.

Congrats! Thank you for the info. I saw you are a NY family....downstate, upstate or western? DS waiting from Western NY with a similar timeline....application done in September, Nom in December, medically cleared in January. Waiting with renewed hope.

If DS has not received a medical qualification then he does not have an appointment in hand, but an LOA. It is still a good sign however, because he has a medical examination scheduled and if he gets medically qualified then he will receive an appointment. The only issue you could encounter is that the medical appointment is not until later in April. DoDMERB is a LONG process and you will be in for a long wait until you hear that you have officially been appointed to the academy. Make sure to have back up plans in place, but your DS is in a better place than the majority of candidates. Best of luck and make sure to be swift with your portion of DoDMERB.

Thank you! We are from downstate. We were in Western NY last week visiting our Plan B school - such beautiful area! There is always hope until TWE received. I haven't seen too many NY appointments here and that helped me going while waiting. I hope you will hear the good news soon!
