USNA 2025 Waiting and....Waiting

My DS received a call from our Congresswoman on a Monday and his portal was updated the following Friday after 5:00 (CST). I had given up checking, thinking it would be another weekend of waiting for official written news, but my husband checked one last time and the portal has updated. After the portal update, an email with instructions for next steps was in his inbox time stamped 5:45 (CST). Still waiting on the PTR info to arrive by mail and hear that could be several weeks after the portal update. I hope this helps and best of luck to everyone!
my DD got her appointment in January - still no PTR info - thinking they wait until all appointments have gone out. she printed out last years and made dr appointments for some vaccines she was missing plus TB testing ......figure it will be similar to last year on that front.....

Congratulations, and thank you for the info! This may have been answered before but I can't find it... On the email your DS received, did the email tell you that you had been offered an appointment, or did it just say "an update has been posted in the portal" like all the civilian schools do, prompting an anxiety fueled 30 seconds while you try to get logged on? 😂
no email for mine saying to check portal - she got a call from congressman letting her know she got the appointment - then portal changed a few days later - but no email telling her portal changed - just check daily

Thank you! It said in the email that he was offered an appointment. No additional minutes of torturous wait!

Chances are not looking too good for my DS. DS just found out from the Congressional office that nominated him that another candidate has been offered an appointment from his slate. I thought my DS had a very strong application and would be very competitive in here in Eastern NC. Oh well.... He can begin to focus even more on narrowing down his plan B choices! Congratulations to all those offered appointments or LOAs off this thread and best of luck to everyone still waiting!!! Things will work out as they are meant to be!
Do NOT give up once you hear news like this. I saw that a recruited athlete who was on my slate received an appointment, and beat myself up over it for a few days. I thought a TWE was coming my way for sure. Next thing I know, I get the call from my MOC.

That is great. Congratulations! I think at this point you start mentally trying to prepare for the bad news. That way maybe it doesn’t hit as hard if it does come. For various reasons, even though I know he had a strong application, I do not have a good feeling about it. Application, particularly essays, could have been stronger. If only we had known then what we know now. DS was not even planning to graduate HS this year and had never thought about applying to a SA until last August. What he has accomplished over this time has been incredible. Who knows, we might be going through this again next year and be much more prepared! Good luck to you at USNA!

Hang tight waiting but.... if that hard day comes, I’ve posted about my DS 2 year journey. As a 2023 he still says the first rejection was the best thing that ever happened to him. It motivated and set him up for other experiences that were not only fun but also had a great impact on his transition and success in plebe summer and academy life. I’m a firm believer that this is a two cycle application process and preparing myself for that road again next year.

I was told by USNA admissions that recruited athletes do not count against the quota for the MOC

DS did. He sent an email to the Congressional assistant that helps with the nominations (same one he had to turn all his stuff into). She emailed back that there had only been one of their USNA nominations that had been offered an appointment. She did add that she was not sure if he/she had accepted the appointment or not.
Do not despair as there are districts that somehow get multiple appointments to the SAs - probably through the Additional Appointments/Nat Wait List/etc.

I know of a district in NJ that had 7 USNA and 11 USMA appointees last year.

Like some here, I only know from the outside, but generally speaking, identified recruited athletes often have LOA’s and, in competitive districts for example, will not be the slate winner as the USNA can often “find” a place to charge them if USNA sees fit to do so (read Blue Chip).

By no means is this the law of the land, so to speak. There is no end to the possible scenarios where recruited athletes won the slate (charged to the MOC), had an LOA but didn’t get an appointment and so on.

Plenty have been charged to their nominating MOC, and many not; so, as the saying goes....Eyes in the Boat.

DD got an email a few days ago from USNA that said they probably would be able to make that April 15 deadline because of all the technical issues this year.
