USNA 2026 Waiting and.… Waiting

Yikes, that's a scary thought. I've heard stories of people sent home at the Coast Guard Academy after swab summer due to failing a color vision test. Could this be a reality for me on I-Day at USNA?
Nothing you can do about it now. I assume you did not receive a DQ on your original DoDMERB results? Hang on to positive thoughts. Admissions and Navy docs are right there on scene to deal with things.

still CPR here too
what is "number of discretionary nominations USNA controls" posted by Capt ?
I heard of someone did not get nominated by any source but with a LOA at the end USNA "find" a nomination for him.
Is this the "discretionary"?
Thanks!

Go to the top of the Nominations forum and read the a sticky note pinned there. There are several sources for noms, some of which Admissions controls.

For serious reading, wherein all nom sources are described:

Still CPR here and reality has set in that spots are almost gone. Didn’t want to do this but now focusing on Plan B and investing time and energy in a different path 😩

I'm in the same boat as you. I know that being CPR this late is better than a TWE but at this point I just want to hear something, good or bad, and get this waiting over with. #StillCPR

I hate to say this, but some will get wait listed and the wait will continue. Continue to work on Plan Bs and enjoy the last few months of high school. It’s all you can control in this process.

I have been mentally preparing DS for the possibility he may be waitlisted for the past few weeks. He did not accept waitlist to two other schools and the statistical probability of admittance off WL from those schools was quite low. Fortunately he’s been sitting on plan C for awhile (plan B is same U with NROTC scholarship) and arranging our summer/ deposits around this. I’ve looked at the numbers from last year (and yes, I know past performance is no guarantee of future) but the numbers seem to justify some optimism. The other optimistic thing is I have yet to see any appointments on this forum from our state and there’s several of us waiting on this board. Makes me hope the slates are still being worked on. I think he would be able to handle the wait for a continued chance and wants to see it through. It’s tough because another young man who went the service academy route has been sitting on WP since mid January and everyone at school keeps asking son if he’s heard. Funny thing is he was first in school to get a positive admit from a school ( his backup) and now it looks like he will also be one of last to hear. He keeps running everyday and I planned a nice spring break for distraction. The net is he’s doing better than I am- seems to be a common theme among the parents on this forum.

I think the real question is if you are CPR, are you REALLY CPR? When you look at past years and you see candidates being CPR until April 14th and then receiving a rejection, one might make the conclusion that CPR is just a placeholder (i.e. A decision has already been made but for some reason not communicated/portal updated). I kind of doubt all those rejections are decided on the last day. On the flip side, you could say that admissions is just keeping their options open and the reason many do not receive rejections earlier is because there is still some possibility of appointment. The truth is, only people who have worked in the inner circle of admissions know. I am just guessing here.

Just a guess, but I assume most CPR are ranked as the second or third spot on a slate, so are kept in CPR just in case the first choice has to withdraw for any reason.

I have my DS investing in plan B big time at this point. If Navy comes through then great, but at this point, so late in the game, I do not have my hopes high. I know there was a direct appointment from our district (principal nominee) and an LOA who got his appointment. Not sure if DA accepted or not. LOA did. My guess is my DS was #3 on his slate. Still doesn't prevent us 1x a day looking in the portal. He has also not publicly stated where his plan B is to everyone and will not until April 15......just in case.

I am in the same boat. My district has two committed athletes. 1 for football and 1 for squash. I've made peace with my plan B, but I am not saying anything yet and keeping my fingers crossed for a miracle.

You have no twe you are not out yet. In our district they had 2 openings for one of the academies…. Yet 4 people got in …. Weird things do happen

Could be. Remember there is the National Pool. So if you got a nom, didn’t win your slate, you land here. The top 150 will get an appt from here. Maybe you are 151, but there are 4 waiting on medical waivers. Maybe you are outside the 150. USNA can pick who they want after the 150 and you are still in a pile there and USNA is determining how many they can take from this pile. Maybe you are going to be wait listed. There are a dozen or more scenarios. Every year USNA says 4/15, hang in there.

my BGO told me a few days ago that I did not have a twe that he could see. I am still being considered. So I don’t know if it’s really a place holder.

My BGO told me the exact same thing. When I was in contact with her a few days ago, she reiterated the fact that since I am still "CPR", I am still in the game. So I am not really sure if it's a place holder too.
