USNA 2026 Waiting and.… Waiting

TWE here also but...DS has already accepted full appointment to USCGA - his first choice - and has also freed up a spot for someone at USMMA...so, DS not sad and things are moving along in the right direction. Good luck to all the deserving candidates still in the game!! Parents - take a deep breath too...its almost over for most of us!

Hello all, I wanted to reach out with a question regarding this admissions cycle. I have applied to both USAFA and USNA and a while ago received a medical DQ. I reached out to Dr. Mullen regarding medical waivers and he put me in contact with the medical technicians at each institution respectively. I got a response that read "USAFA is not requesting a waiver at this time." (Which I know to be indicative of rejection.) That being said, I have not received any update or news via email or portal update. Does this mean anything other than more waiting, that I have no chance at this point, or anything else? Like the majority of us, I am very anxious and any answers would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Is it safe to assume that everyone who is CPR right now will head to either the waitlist or TWE? Or is that not a given? Could there still be appointments directly from CPR this week?

Being that it’s not yet April 15th, USNA’s stated ‘notify by’ date, I would say yes. Because why not? And? If you haven’t yet received a turn down, you are still in the game. Until they tell you that you aren’t.

This happens every year, every cycle. There are so many moving pieces and parts, it’s impossible to have the whole thing completely 100 pct settled overnight. For example, there are still people out there who have offers of appointments who have not accepted. Or said declined.

And while one person saying no, doesn’t necessarily equate to another receiving an offer, it does in the big picture have an affect on how many more appointments are yet to be offered. USNA has their numbers, including estimated turn downs, that they target. It’s sort of like planning a wedding reception. Waiting for final RSVP’s to give final numbers to the caterers.

One example: what if you are the #2 person, on a senators ranked slate? That *COULD* be a situation where USNA is waiting to hear from the #1 ranked candidates decision (who my also have multiple SA and ROTC offers they are considering). Maybe you are behind a person who is trying to clear a medical issue. These are a couple examples that come to mind, as to why candidates could be where they are today. Only admissions knows.

Again, one person saying no doesn’t necessarily equate to another offer at the local level. In some circumstances, it could. We (you) simply have no way of knowing that.

What you do know, is there are lots and lots of different scenarios. And each, at this point in the game, is settling down into the final lap of that big race, with the finish line still in the distance (April 15th). You are still in this race. Hang on, be patient, continue to work your alternate plans.

No more waiting. TWE. Heartbreaking to have her ask "what did I do wrong?". The answer is nothing. But so very many candidates doing so much right makes the selection process crazy competitive. Plan B is so, so good. In a "normal" admission cycle who wouldn't be thrilled with NROTC to Virginia Tech? Answer: the kid(s) still holding onto a little bit of hope that they'd hear a yes from USNA.

Sorry to hear. NROTC and V tech is awesome. USNA has such limited space that candidates with awesome potential wont make it. The fact she got NROTC shows she is plenty good just not enough spaces. She can re apply next yr. Best of luck to her.

Saturday was great we took DD's baby sister to USAG State. We did not think about college. We did not talk about an appointment. We ate gyros... cheered for little gymnast... and sang 80s music all the way home. Sunday, back to the reality that maybe we should look at those back up plans. We are going to Albuquerque on Good Friday, 17 hours from home.... and if the TWE arrives we have green chili fries and phenomenal burritos. Does anyone know if there is a "walk on" option for NROTC?
Yes, there are MANY paths for NROTC. Jump over to the ROTC threads on this forum. It is another world and another language to learn, but the information on here is gold. In many cases you are hearing directly from military personnel active in the process. As with all military pursuits, initiative matters.

So a little birdie said that if my son's medical doesn't get resolved by the 15th, his decision may be delayed. Not a definitive answer, but better than nothing!

The birdie said that there are actually a number of applicants in that situation.

They could be offered an appointment to USNA, be waitlisted, offered to go to NAPS, offered a foundation scholarship, or given a TWE. Wish everyone the best.

The TWE arrived both through the portal and a soul crushing email. I cried in private for her. She pivoted, and immediately called our pastor to say she can volunteer at spiritual boot camp. She accepted the two summer jobs she interviewed for in March. She has her conversations lined up to make a decision between the back up plans. They are excellent back up plans. My Momma Bear Heart wishes DD would of at least asked for a hug, the rest of me is so very proud of her. Good luck, to all of you still waiting and those who have received the TWE.

Virtual hug coming to you! The theme I am seeing here over and over is we have raised some incredibly strong, caring and resilient young humans. The future is bright for all of us with each of these applicants paving the way for a better tomorrow. These young men and women are who we need as leaders. Good job moms and dads!!!

I was so hoping to meet your DD and you. The best words my daughter heard was on one of her interviews. There are no bad candidates at this point. Good luck to her at Virginia Tech and NROTC. Hugs to you and your DD on making it to this point and for the resilience to move to the next plan.

Any idea which is better at this point, waitlisted or cpr?
Great question. No idea but would love to learn what others think.

Something says to me that it’s better to be CPR as they might still be trying to fit you in but I have no idea. It’s just an opinion and not based on facts.

Question on behalf of a friend...

If one receives a TWE to USNA, does a NAPS offer show up immediately in response to the TWE, or can they get a NAPS offer like weeks later?
