USNA Admissions book

Your primary source, USNA.edu, should be your go-to, especially if you scour every web page, link, hamburger menu item.

That book is 5 years old, and may not be accurate in some areas. That said, it may give you insights you might not have otherwise. It can’t hurt, as long as you don’t treat it as a primary source.

Of course sir. I have read every single thing on that site so many times, it's almost as if i know it as well as the back of my hand. I won't treat it as a primary source, however I was wondering if anyone here had read it, and can tell me if it provides some personal insight from others experience, or what to expect if I were to buy it and read it. I dont want to spend money on a book with the same info online that I can read for free.

The book is a worthy companion to the USNA website, providing some interesting snippets of those who’ve gone through the USNA experience. Probably most useful to those debating whether to apply or not. More useful to an underclassman than a senior who’s already in the midst of applying. But doesn’t hurt to have, as long as it’s not your primary source.

By the way, @Capt MJ is not a “sir.”

I bought that book back in my sophomore year when I started to consider USNA. It has been helpful occasionally as I am going through the application process. I will confirm that it does have some outdated information; specifically when it discusses the nomination process. It mentions that you will have to call congressional offices to receive your application packet. However, as far as I know, everything is digital now. Yet, it does give some great tips when it comes to the nomination interviews. It also goes into great detail about the types of questions asked. Another great area is the "how-to prepare" section; it gives excellent advice on how to change your learning style in high school to be ready for the rigor of the academy and the kinds of students that suffer academic shock (do not be one).

In my opinion, all the information in that book can now be found in online resources. Including usna.edu and these forums. It is not worth buying.
