I am currently in the process of applying and getting ready for the Academy.I am a jr. and am wondering when i shoudl begin applying to the academy and when is it best to apply for a california nomination. Any other tips for all the acadimies are appreciated. thanks.

You can begin the application process NOW! The following link will take you to the USNA "Naval Academy Summer Seminar (NASS)" web page. NASS is a program for possible candidates to attend in the summer before their senior year in HS.

Note that you are NOT required to apply for, or to be selected for, NASS in order to end up with an appointment to USNA. It is a program meant to allow at least some interested rising seniors to get a better idea of what it's like at USNA.

If you decide not to apply for NASS, you can submit a preliminary application to USNA starting about a day after the NASS application closes, or any time after that until the winter of your senior year in HS.

Almost every Member of Congress (MOC) has a different deadline for submitting an application for a nomination to a Service Academy (SA). Your best bet is to find your MOC's web pages (both US Senators and your US Rep), and look for a link about SA nominations. The links are often under something like "Constituent Services."

Welcome, it's good to see another Californian on here. Although I don't know for your rep, our senators, Boxer and Feinstein, have applications which open on April 1st and close (I think) November 1st.

Now is the time to get started - apply for NASS and or a sports/leadership camp, contact your nominating sources and let them know you are interested in the Naval Academy, start taking the SAT and ACT exams, and notify your college placement counselor that you are applying to the Naval Academy (you may want to have a parent with you) to help you get cooperation in getting materials submitted timely (be tactful here), and in getting the courses you need, eg, calculus, chemistry, physics, etc. Best wishes to you!
