USNA Application Portal Problem

Does anyone else have a weird-looking reference section? I have a blank slot marked as incomplete, followed by English, Math, PE, Activities Official, and Counselor sections, with the option to add a reference... Are the blank slot and the additional reference the 2 optional ones? Thanks

Yea, I believe those are the extra beyond required ones. Mine show the same.

Is the "Current Studies" section broken for anyone else? I hit "Yes", enter all my courses, and save&continue...then when I close and reopen the application, it says "No" again, and all the courses I entered are gone.

My DS went in his portal today and his current studies had two of everything and yesterday it was just one of everything. Something got weird. He deleted the extra classes and it seems ok now.

Anyone is able to complete
Demographics
Schools Attended

These two are very simple to finish but the system won't let to save and complete -- does not tell what errors are.
Did you ever figure out how to do this?

Yes, the application was complete a while ago. Now the problem is progress check. It says
"
— It is your responsibility to ensure these Checklist Items are completed and received by the USNA Admissions Office — "

However, the system is totally messed up, for example

Official SAT or ACT Score X (means not complete)

However, at the bottom

Official Test Scores were listed along with the time received.

Also Candidate Extracurricular Activities Validation was submitted by my counselor -- but it is listed X (not complete)

Discussed with USNA admission office, was told system updating, but that was three weeks ago.

Okay, I will work through it. Thank you for your help.

100%, IT issues have the checklists all wonky.
Yes, as @Heatherg21 (a great BGO and SAF poster) says, keep checking but understand lots of IT issues...they will let BGOs know when the check lists are working properly. Keep working on what you can regarding both the USNA and your Nomination applications.

My BGO told me to “ignore” the checklist until further notice.
So this is what is confusing to me. DS has several items on his checklist that should be checked off, but they are not because of the aforementioned IT issues. I guess it's okay to ignore the checklist, but aren't there other items on the checklist (BGO interview, DoDMERB, for instance) that do not get set in motion until a minimum number of items are checked off? He is trying to move forward now before school starts, but what we're hearing is we have to sit and just ignore the checklist. Meanwhile, I'm reading on the DoDMERB forum about applicants who are working through DoDMETS, but DS has not received his medical packet. We're just at an impasse. Is it time to worry?

Deep breaths.

Keep in mind Admissions people can see everything in a candidate’s “digital bin.” The checklist in the candidate-facing portal is simply a convenient status posting, and apparently there is an issue with that particular element updating.

If your son is worried about any particular piece and whether Admissions actually has it, he can come up in the chat widget accessible on the Admissions page, and ask. He should have his candidate number handy. Live chat tends to be midday Eastern time.

USNA teams have begun working through applications and determining which applications they want to initiate DoDMERB for. Some don’t start DoDMERB until well into the cycle, and DoDMERB processes can be active through late spring. It does not have to be done by the application submission deadline, as it is not an element under the candidate’s control, though the candidate shouldn’t dilly-dally once directed to do it.

It’s not an impasse. It’s the normal pattern of stop-start, wait, repeat.

DS can (and should) reach out to his BGO to schedule the interview…there is no minimum number of application parts that need to be submitted to conduct the interview, but would recommend DS provide the BGO a status on what has been turned in. Some BGOs will not conduct the interview until there is progress on the application.

Thank you to both of you…especially for the “deep breaths” instruction. Navigating this has been an experience; although, DS is far more chill about it than his parents.

Seriously, thanks again.

This process is part of the induction from ‘the civilian way’ to ‘the military way’. Seriously. If you have no military experience, you are used to things happening logically, expeditiously, with economies of scale and constant improvements in processes to streamline efficiencies. That’s not the case in a military bureaucracy. So it can take a bit for a regular civilian to adjust.

Lots of “the normal pattern of stop-start, wait, repeat (@Capt MJ)”. It’s a whole different world!

My son's portal still shows his c/o 2027 info and candidate # and hasn't updated to the c/o 2028 yet. He called before he left for NSI and they said it would update in late July. He won't be home until August 7th so I'm not super worried, but I was hoping he could get a lot of this done before leaving for school in a couple of weeks.

Is anyone's application portal not let you add math or English teacher recommendations, like it only has a fitness recommendation option in the recommendations section of the portal. Maybe it could be because I'm a college re-applicant?
How did you ever correct the issue?

DS's portal still says incomplete even though everything has had a checkmark for weeks. He has emailed admissions twice but no word.... ugh
