I wish I had his email - I was so busy reading all the questions & answers - as there literally were 80-90 questions with answers ( out of order ) because it was a scrolling screen - Candidates would ask their questions consecutively and he would be answering them with their name so you have to go back to the persons name to find out the question to see and figure out the answer— it was stressful and I forgot to get the email 😞-

Thanks. Do you think he meant only 100 open slots reserved for CPRs or 100 open slots period? Just wondering if there are other slots for LOAs or maybe those are already counted in the class count on the assumption most will meet their condition. Just pondering.
 
I will say throughout the whole phone call that the number of candidates fluctuated between 110 and 145 or so (you could see their names on the side of the screen as in who was on the call ) and a lot of them were CPR- Many with LOA waiting for waivers , a few overseas candidates - Who apparently don’t find out until the end of April- Etc - my DS doesn’t have LOA or is waiting on a waiver .... so it was interesting to see the different reasons ... it really is so unpredictable

Personally I took it as - there are 100 spots left in the class of 2024 and there are 500 or so applicants have not been given an answer whether LOA waiver medical issue or whatever😉.

There are Roughly 200 (give or take 10 maybe) coming down from NAPS to join the class of 2024 as well .... and 50 or so from the Sponsored programs.
.
So that’s roughly 250 (give or take 10) from NAPS and sponsored.

200 remaining? Or total?
 
In terms of the 200 or so coming down from NAPs and the 50 from sponsored programs (250 total), I would have to assume that they are not included in the "500 to fill 100 slots" math that we're talking about. If the NAP and sponsored spots were left to be filled, they already don't have enough room to fit them in (i.e., 250 spots needed for NAPS/sponsored and only 100 left), and USNA is a lot smarter than that. So, I'm assuming we are talking about 500 CPR looking to fill 100 spots available for the existing CPR population, and that there are separately roughly 250 spots saved for the NAPS and sponsored populations?

When we dropped our daughter off in July last summer, the presentation that was given to us by the Commanding officers showed that of the 250 at NAPS the prior year, a little over 200 of them made it down to Annapolis to join the class of 2019.

NAPSters leave for whatever reason throughout the program, even in the few weeks of indoc. It is just not for them. Others have very poor performance, and choose to leave as well. They really push these kids.

This year, 263 started up there for the Navy NAPS program (10 more than this for the Coast Guard). My daughter now has her own room (normally 2 NAPSters per dorm room), and there is 2 rooms vacant next to her.

Btw .... the NAPSters are restricted from leaving Naval Base Newport during this Covid-19 ordeal.

Yes .... They are separate incoming Pools of Appointees.

Earlier today, our daughter sent us a letter from Captain Howe’s saying that families are not allowed on the base for the ceremonies, and they will be held online for us to view.

We will also have to pick our daughters belongings up outside Gate 1 of Base Newport on May 8th or after because we are not allowed on base with Covid situation.

While it’s a different situation than you visualized, the achievements are still the same. That’s what we are focusing on here at our house, for one sons graduation from BMT TOMORROW (eeek), and our seniors HS graduation (which at this point they are delaying...to June or July...which my son will not be able to attend).

‘Kinda getting used to this new ‘normal’. Congrats to your DD!!

The problem with these type of Q&A's is that people parse words and try to read between lines, without any opportunity for follow up .. The statement there are still 500 CPR and 100 spots left doesn't translate to 20% chance. This is like a jigsaw puzzle, and a lot of variables go into the process.

^^^this is correct

my DS was on the call and the Mod added that there were still a large # who haven’t confirmed - so I would encourage those that have multiple acceptances to reject or accept ASAP after their decision is made, to allow others to have the slot if they are not going to take it - I understand that the choice is hard and you may be waiting on a final acceptance and that is understandable but as someone else on here posted in a previous thread - flip a coin and whichever one you are really hoping for while it’s in the air is probably where you belong - best of luck to all 👍

That is not really the issue. While there may be some openings as a result of other Candidates rejecting offers, USNA Admissions is already taking into account the anticipated "yield"; USNA is actually pretty good at predicting the "yield" (how many acceptances /offers made).

Beyond that, there a many threads in this Forum over the years about a Candidates "duty" or "responsibility" to make a choice in timely manner in order to "make room" for someone else.

I agree that over all of the years, they are good at determining the yield using various tools and indicators.

However, I was amazed when DS got a personal email from the Regional Director and asked if DS was still interested in USNA and was there a high likelihood of accepting if DS was offered an appointment.
