USNA CLASS OF 2024 Update-List-Yourself APPOINTMENTS

What do you tell your grandson when he did not get an appointment as a prep / college re app that thought he had it. Led his class till corona virus, president’s list, ace high and BGO said he did not see how he would not be appointed. Both Senators from Alabama nominated him too! I never did see anybody from Alabama this year. I did last year?

If in fact his BGO said “... don’t see how he would not be appointed”, that was very irresponsible of him to say it. Are you sure you got that right?

Just what my grandson said. Doesn’t matter, he didn’t get it. What bothers me though is that deep down, the candidate should know that he is good to go or not so much as the case may be. The devastation of getting rejected last year and then again this year with a real expectation to get in is hard for me as a grandfather to take. I’m worried about him and hoping he can recover. It does not look good. Congratulations to all those who have made it. Just know what a blessing it is for you. Be grateful and do your very best for your country. God bless America.

I think you have to explain that a lack of an appointment does not define him. He has clearly achieved and likely will continue to do so when he puts his mind, body and soul behind something. He needs to keep that faith. What got him to this point, will carry him far in life. With a DS who is LOA at USNA nervously waiting for word on a medical waiver as a re-applicant, I have begun the process of considering how I can support him if a waiver is not granted. I know he will be deeply disappointed if this were to happen. He, surely like your grandson, has worked his tail off and has done everything asked of him and within his control. That's all they can do. And they should take comfort when they do so. Best of luck to your grandson. I expect big things.

The devastation of getting rejected last year and then again this year with a real expectation to get in is hard for me as a grandfather to take. I’m worried about him and hoping he can recover. Sadly, these are the most heartbreaking posts that are made EVERY. SINGLE. YEAR. There simply are not enough spots for all the amazing kiddos. What your grandson needs to understand is that it is NOT a reflection of who he is. At all. Every candidate is amazing...exceptional credentials. Not receiving an appointment doesn't take that away from who he is. As a person of Faith, I have to believe all things happen for a reason. And we don't know the reason (hence the Faith piece). Perhaps he isn't ready yet. Perhaps he needs another year of growth. Perhaps he is being 'tested' to see how BADLY he wants it (and applies again). Those would be discussions we would (and may...still waiting here!) have with our candidate! I feel for your grandson. I feel for his parents, and I feel for you! It will sting for a while...that WILL diminish. Nothing is ever certain or given in this process. To assume it is, would be simply wrong. Too many weird admission pieces and nuances to be able to have any certainty. I suspect his BGO made a more 'off-hand' comment than the actual one posted. And as humans, we often hear what we WANT to hear. Did he actually receive the TWE? Hugs to all...keep chins up, keep on moving forward!

BTW, our state isn't listed, either...and I know of 2 appointed, one waiting on a waiver. Posting here doesn't mean stuff isn't happening

Same here. I have been CPR since last fall. In my opinion since we aren't waitlisted and haven't received TWEs, we still have some good stake in the game (not that the waitlist doesn't). Just going with the old saying "No news is good news". Best of luck.

Would love to think this, but last year's late CPR list of 52 candidates had a single candidate that I saw who converted to a BFE on 17 April. That probably means that statistically, 1-10 current CPRs could see an appointment, but this is pure speculation based on last year's results, only admissions knows. DD waiting too. There is still hope for everyone!
