Yea no worries! So an LOA, like you said, is a conditional offer of appointment. It means he's essentially missing something from his whole packet, but USNA wants him to know that they have a seat reserved for him. It's close to an offer, but not quite. Hopefully this helps! :)

Yeah it does, he got the LOA a couple of weeks after submitting the package, he got invited to DC but we could not make it, going next week.

ok now next stupid question....now what? lol when does he have to respond by, I believe he wants to hear from other academies and ROTCs.

What paperwork should I start getting ready for him, like official documents and the like, he will still e under 18 when he shows up at any of the academies. I got two kids going to school at the same time so you can imagine the fun months ahead.

He has until May 1st to officially decide. There's no rush in deciding, but there is a lot of paperwork to do. Tell him to take his time as this is his future for the next 4+ years.

4- 15 yrs with the commitment after the academy. Yes, we at home have been trying our best to have zero influence on the branch, rotc vs academy, and even military career at all. He is lucky to have been admitted to excellent civilian schools too.
He knows we will support his choice no matter what. We have told him is his choice and his choice alone and a very important one since he is the one going to academy and military training and military life, we told him we prepared you to be lucky enough to have choices vs having a single path..... he is very insightful so he will take his time.
I believe we know what his choice will be but we stay mute and even his sibling is staying neutral.

Once an appointment is offered/accepted, instructions to complete the permit to report (PTR) will also be provided (may take some time before the 2026 PTR is available). This will list all of the requirements/action items to complete prior to I-Day. (Class of 2025 was here: https://www.usna.edu/Admissions/PermitToReport/ ). Many threads elsewhere in this forum on this topic.

Thanks. I will let him know so he can go over it. I got his passport, i will be calling ss to get his ss card he is under 18 for a few weeks during academy so i believe i have to do those doc with me permission.

I heard the form 86 is the fun one. I think i over heard him saying that

I would go ahead and have him make an appt with his dr for any shots that he will need including TB test. My Daughter needed several that needed to be spaced apart, so he can get on top of all of that before PTR packet arrives to where ever he chooses. Mine is at USNA and loves it!!!!

All his shots should be up today. Including covi boost but i will make sure he has all needed. Thanks for the heads up
I imagine shots are the same no matter SA

We are visiting next week for USNA cadet weekend He would love to become a pilot, childhood dream
