USNA Class of 2027 Waiting and Speculating

Did she receive a nom, and it isn’t showing yet in portal? Or she doesn’t know if she received a nom?
Not yet, DD has been in contact with Office of MOC and every time gets a different response as to why it’s taking so long.

It’s their call as to how they want to run their process, and with the due date not for another week, I am sure that is crazy-making.

Yes, for sure! I really love to help people out and if my story can do that, I'll be glad to.
Your story can. You have become one of my favorite forum stories. I know the work you put in.

I saw in many threads the tact you displayed and the growth you showed when you asked for opinions and received them.

Your growth since your first post is evident on many levels.

Like I said before, your journey and your process, decision making, and execution plan is something many could learn from.

I hope you come back youngster year, when you have your feet on the deck and your head in a good space, and pay it forward.

Like some before you, @Kierkegaard and @Skipper07 , there is real world knowledge and perspective to be conveyed to those of us outside the walls of the Yard.

Hi all - As many of us here are still "waiting and speculating" I wanted to send a shout-out to you all for maintaining the stamina it takes to get through this process! I had no idea what this would all entail when my son decided in 8th grade that his goal was to attend an SA. (Had I known then what I know now, I probably would have run for the hills!) The amount of work these students (and parents) put in to get to this point and beyond is amazing to me, and regardless of the outcome, something everyone should be proud of. Bravo and Congrats to all who have received Appointments so far and fingers crossed and sending every good vibe I have to those of us still waiting and working and hoping. Such a crazy ride!

My portal just updated, have my second nom in, it was JROTC. if I was the only one nominated in my unit, it’s a definite key right?
What do you think happens now?

You now compete with all other fully qualified candidates with either a JROTC or college ROTC nom on a national basis, in that “nom bucket.” A certain number of appointments in each cycle may be charged to that nom source.

You are also competing in your other “nom bucket.”

The Academy can only appoint against 20 ROTC nominations. It is one of the tougher categories. But, there are some others that can be put into that mix.

You have a much higher pool with an MoC nom. Having both? Just more options for the Academy to put an appointment against!

I brought this one back from another thread asking about ROTC/JROTC noms:

The ROTC/JROTC nom has a total of 75 opportunities (ROTC 20 plus VP-5 and Sup-50) for appointment (assuming no other service related nominations), whereas the nominee by MOC or Senator has a total of 201 opportunities for appointment including his/her MOC or Senator nomination (VP-5, Service Secretary-150, Sup-50).

Most people applying for MOC/Senator noms do NOT qualify for Service Secretary noms - those are for active duty/reserve members of the forces (not children of military).

Everyone theoretically qualifies for Supe's noms.

My DD portal was just updated and nomination just popped up. What’s the next step??
More waiting. If her application is complete, and nothing is outstanding, she waits. Tends alternate plans.

The SAs try to inform everyone of decisions by mid-April, knowing many schools have 1 May decision dates. There will be applicants who still won’t know going into May and even June, perhaps because of medical issues, or because they have been placed on a waitlist late in the cycle, in case there is room in the class.

Now that the DoDMERB website is back up, your son can go to the DoDMERB home page, work through the menu on the left with all kinds of good info on the process, and dive into Contacts to figure out who to call with his next steps questions

So glad you know what his actual hearing status is. Now it’s a matter of admin and patience.
Update: DS received an email from DoDMERB this afternoon. Logged into the site and there is a notification that his Medical has been cleared and he is fully QUALIFIED! OohRah! Good to go! We're back in this thing! What a whirlwind, rollercoaster of emotions! Back to the waiting, hoping and praying! We didn't come this far, just to come this far!

Does she have a LOA? If so, she should hear soon. If not, good luck, but it's a waiting game now. Move forward with alternate backup plans, regular college, NROTC, etc... Definatly have BU plans.

Do you have an LOA? Or conditional appointment?

I may be not picking up the vibe correctly, but your question seems to indicate that you understand that if you are the only one nominated in your JROTC unit, that you are soon to be appointed (not sure what definite key means…but it reads that you believe it’s a ‘definite’ that you will be appointed). It’s been explained already, but being the only one nominated from your JROTC, doesn’t equate to an appointment. As already discussed.

Make sure you have solid back up plans. You may receive an appointment. You also may NOT receive an appointment. Most who apply, do not. So make sure and have solid plans.
