April 15 is supposedly the very last day one can receive a decision. I’ve heard stories of waitlisted Mids receiving their appointment after that date, though.Hi, so i’m on my third try for usna and i wanted to ask how late is too late for appointments?
I'm sure I'll get corrected if this is incorrect, but my understanding is that April 15 is decision day. You can get placed into three categories:April 15 is supposedly the very last day one can receive a decision. I’ve heard stories of waitlisted Mids receiving their appointment after that date, though.
Ha! We were 100% opposite! DS (current Plebe) would NOT wear ANY Navy of USNA gear, stuff sent from his virtual NASS included. DW and I and his siblings were included in this for fear of bad luck. We resisted any USNA purchase with coupon from CVW that we were given. Used it instead to purchase Best friend (USMC CWO III retired) a USMC Wall hanger for his bar. Once Appointment was in hand, the Online MID Store received a substantial 'tuition payment' so DS and the rest of us were soon covered in USNA Blue & Gold.Who has weird superstitions with this now? I’ve started wearing my Navy hoodie once a day until he gets in (this might go very very poorly for me oh and I drink from a Navy coffee mug! Oh and I have his Senator Kaine nomination on the fridge and I thank him multiple times a day! I feel like all these little things help with the luck he needs! Anyone doing anything similar and fun or maybe more useful!!? It’s so helpful to have all you folks here to help and listen! Thanks everybody!
That's what happened to DS last year. Got a call on his cell about a week later.Congratulations!!! The portal just changed without previous phone call ??
He can accept USMA, and if a USNA appointment comes, if that’s his first choice, he can declines his USMA and accept USNA.@Capt MJ may be able to answer this best. And the answer might be "just wait" but if there's some insight on the whole admissions process I'd appreciate it.
DS has an appointment to USMA (he had an LOA). He was DQ'd by DoDMERB but received a waiver from USMA. His application for USNA was complete when his MOC nom came in during mid-December and according to his Admission's Officer his file was shortly sent over to the committee for review. Since then there's been no new information. His AO tells him he's still "in the running" but when he reaches out to the USNA medical contact he's told there won't be a waiver request unless he's got an LOA or offer of appointment - so it still hasn't started. So are they just waiting to tell him "no" or is he gradually surviving cuts? My concern is that once the waiver request is made - if it's made - there won't be time to process it before his USMA decision deadline. Any thoughts on this situation?
Thank you. He's not crazy about doing that because of the trickle down effect on someone waiting to hear from USMA, but I suppose that will be a positive for whoever comes off the waitlist if he decides to go USNA.He can accept USMA, and if a USNA appointment comes, if that’s his first choice, he can declines his USMA and accept USNA.
There is no trickle down effect. His not accepting doesn’t open another spot for someone else. His appointment is his appointment to do with as he wishes.Thank you. Blank your mind of all scenarios and just hope.@Capt MJ may be able to answer this best. And the answer might be "just wait" but if there's some insight on the whole admissions process I'd appreciate it.

Thank you! Your second paragraph and the previous poster’s response are the main concerns he has, so that alleviates some of the stress.Blank your mind of all scenarios and just hope.
If they want to offer him an appointment, the waiver process will kick in. Keep in mind waiver policies differ among the services, not arbitrarily, but because Service missions, operating environments, gear and equipment differ. It is also normal one SA may offer appointment, another not. Different slate competition, different class-building needs.
If he is fine with going to USMA and can 100% commit there with a willing heart, he can accept their offer by their deadline - that should be a stand-alone decision. If he then gets an offer from USNA, he can re-assess, and if he wishes, can contact USMA to appreciatively change his decision to decline and accept USNA. The SAs build this kind of outcome into the number of appointments they offer each year as part of their attrition planning. All the SAs want a candidate to go where their heart, gut and brain tell them their people are.
A follow up question from DS - given what you're saying about accepting the appointment to USMA, is there any harm in accepting the appointment now and getting a jump on paperwork? He is truly undecided, but it's either USNA or USMA, so he'll either have a decision to make or it'll be made for him.Blank your mind of all scenarios and just hope.

I am not going to be too helpful on this, except to recommend he think though all the pros and cons, see what feels right, and make a decision - precursor to all the adult decisions awaiting him. Or set a date two weeks from now and don’t think about it until then. There will still be plenty of time to get things done.A follow up question from DS - given what you're saying about accepting the appointment to USMA, is there any harm in accepting the appointment now and getting a jump on paperwork? Sorry, I think my post was confusing. The main question is whether it would hurt him to go ahead and accept the appointment to USMA and start the paperwork and then worry about USMA v. USNA if/when he gets an appointment to USNA.I am not going to be too helpful on this, except to recommend he think though all the pros and cons, see what feels right, and make a decision - precursor to all the adult decisions awaiting him. I would wait to make the decision. They gave you a deadline. Make the decision when you have all information to make the right decision.Sorry, I think my post was confusing. That’s how I am right now. A lot of USNA stuff and I haven’t worn any of it recently. I hope I can get in but time is running out. Maybe next year…Ha! We were 100% opposite! Good Luck!
The advice I’d give, if it were my kid: If you have USMA offer in hand and USMA is the one you’d choose, even if USNA comes through with an offer, then accept USMA and notify USNA of your decision. There’s no point in waiting on USNA.The main question is whether it would hurt him to go ahead and accept the appointment to USMA and start the paperwork and then worry about USMA v. Good Luck... You are not out until you are out and receive a No.That’s how I am right now. A lot of USNA stuff and I haven’t worn any of it recently. I hope I can get in but time is running out. Maybe next year…
