USNA Class of 2027 Waiting and Speculating

My son DODMERB still shows "under waiver review. Trying to remain hopeful that since there are no NV candidates on the board that my son is still in the running. I guess at this point, no news is still good news. (Fingers crossed and prayers sent)

Sometimes it does seem like time is running out, the days feel long with such uncertainty looming. However, I believe there’s still reason to hope, with many appointments outstanding, while tending to back up plans.

A parent provided these charts weekly during the 2025 appointment season and you’ll see there were a number of appointments shared in March and April.

As a Data Analyst, I can see there *could be a pattern developing here, where - starting with C2025 in Red - more Appointments are being offered, later on the timeline. I'd be willing to bet that C2027 would shift the bars further into the timeline due to the DoDMERB website issues which probably delayed the Admissions Board decisions for a numbered of 3Q'd Candidates. Anyone else have an insight, or opinion they would like to weigh in with on this?

Some movement in DD’s portals. She received a LOA two weeks ago pending she is granted a medical waiver. Today I looked into her portals:

- DoDMERB just switched from Under Waiver Review to Under DoDMERB review, I’m assuming USNA sent some form of communication to DoDMERB, whether yay, nay, or AMI

- USNA Portal medical just switched from “X” under medical to a check mark . However, no indication of Yay, or Nay on the waiver.
- Her conditional LOA is still showing

The wait is excruciating!

That’s why it isn’t healthy to keep staring at portals.

Wait for the good news.

Hi there! New member here, just joined today. I am not sure if this question has been asked/answered somewhere else. My son is medically cleared, has his nomination and passed his candidate fit test. I am not sure what 3Q means? Thank you in advance!!

You just defined it: Qualified three ways (3Q)

A candidate must be 3Q and have a nom to be appointed. The 3Qs are medical, scholastic and CFA. A candidate will know their medical and CFA status. USNA does not notify candidates if they are scholastically qualified. Nor do they release what those standards are. West Point does notify them of 3Q status but USNA does not.

Fully qualified, triple qualified, or 3Q:
Medical/DoDMERB qualified or waivered
Physical/CFA
Academic-scholastic/rough umbrella for all other evaluated elements.

3Q plus at least 1 nom from any source puts the candidate in the appointable/admissible group. This group is always larger than those actually offered appointments; there is just not enough room in the class.

USNA typically does not tell candidates they are 3Q. You can figure out medical and physical, but can only speculate on how competitive in the academic qual area.

And welcome new member of a few hours!

I believe that C2025 was when they rolled out the new admissions system (Salesforce) so it created a lot of delays with appointments. USAFA went through the same trouble last year moving over to Salesforce. DODMERB could be causing similar delays but really no way to compare year to year. As long as a TWE hasn't come in, candidates are still in the hunt.

Thank you, I appreciate the update!

Hello! I am an applicant for the class of 2027. I received a medical waiver for USNA back in January and haven’t heard anything since. Should I still take it as a good sign? Or should I be worried since it’s taken so long

Neither. Regardless of when things move in your portal, you should be planning on knowing your outcome by April 15th - USNA’s stated ‘date of notification by’. 4 more weeks. You should be working your alternate plans, as if they are your primary ones.
