USNA Class of 2027 Waiting and Speculating

So again, I’ve been told you will still acceptance conditional on medical. If you don’t have everything straightened out , you have basically up until I day to do it
Have heard the same thing. USNA medical personnel won't even start working on the waiver until you have an acceptance or an LOA - I'm really not sure how that all works this close to 4/15 - so they have to allow for that to be cleared up.

No reason to apologize. You are bringing your thoughts to the group just like the rest of us are.

I'm not sure this an entirely accurate statement. If the admissions team wants to see if a candidate is even viable to consider in the mix, they need to know if they are medically qualified. There is no logic to only pick people to go for a waiver if they already plan to accept them. What happens if they don't get it, or if the person declines? They need back-ups. And back-ups to back-ups.

My kid's original waiver was given around December of his first application cycle (yes, he did have an LOA). And it carried over to his second as nothing had changed with respect to the non-condition he got waived. But he did not have the LOA the second round.

When DS received his waiver from USMA he reached out to his USNA admissions officer and asked about the waiver process. USNA admissions officer referred him to USNA medical personnel. When DS asked about the waiver process he was told "when you are in line for an offer of appointment to USNA or one of our preparatory programs, we will begin processing a medical waiver on your behalf." He does not have an LOA but was previously told that LOAs have their waiver process start automatically too.

I would say the difference with your child is that he/she had the LOA, got the waiver and that waiver carried through to the second application process. But according to USNA medical personnel, without the LOA your waiver won't be started until you're otherwise accepted - which I suppose could also technically be an LOA with the medical condition on it.

Things I think about to prevent my brain from inventing things to panic about:

On 9/15/22 my son's medical checkmark appeared and I was so excited to see that CPR pop up
On 11/29/22 he got his nom and I was then ready to start seeing motion
From 11/30/22 until approximately 4/1/23 I was annoyed that it STILL said CPR
From 4/1/23 until this very minute, I am both relieved and annoyed that it still says CPR

I think this week, I will focus on while offer > CPR, CPR > Turned down

I wish I hadn't already done my taxes. I should have saved that for this week. Who has the bacon????

Yes, thank you! I was just answering that person’s question that medical waivers will not always be squared away before April 15th

It is funny that the doubling of everything was mentioned earlier today. I just logged onto my DD's portal and while she is still CPR, this is this first time I've seen all of the items on her checklist doubled. 🤣 Things are happening! 🤞

I don’t believe that is necessarily true. My DS does not have a LOA but they are working on his medical waiver and we have been informed of the requirements we need to complete for the waiver.

Same with my DS. 🤞🙏

without trying to pry into your son's medical situation too much, may I ask a couple questions?

first, I assume he's CPR now?
Is he a recruited athlete?
when did they start looking into a waiver for him?
and if you don't mind, is his issue just sports injuries or something more complex?

Please pass the bacon. And the rum. I'm with you on all of this!

Pulled up screenshots to see that DD was CPR on August 27th, and has been there ever since. A happy dance for the nom in December and here we are appreciating that CPR > turn down, but appointment > CPR.

We've made it 1/2 through day 5 and almost reached 100 pages of waiting. We got this...

Not sure what that means. No doubling here . Just the one check mark

Yes of course! I have learned so much from this forum and am happy to help anyone else in this very stressful process!!!

Yes, he is still CPR - He has not been told he has an LOA nor does his portal reflect an LOA

Yes, he is a recruited athlete

He emailed admissions medical last week and was told he was in queue to be reviewed for a waiver but they couldn’t tell him how long it would take.

Friday he got an email from
DoDMERB stating there was correspondence in his portal. That is where the requirement was listed.

Saturday he received an email from a medical technician at USNA stating the same thing.

It is not a sports injury…it’s a medical issue from 3 years ago that has been completely resolved but they want an updated consult.

seeing CPR this late in the game is somewhat of a positive sign, it MAY mean that they want you but there is someone in your state area that is ahead of you due to being a recruited athlete, or a college reapplicant, or an LOA that just hasnt said yes yet. this happened to my DS 4 years ago and if i recall, he didnt get notified of anything until mid to late April and it was that he was wait listed....please keep waiting. then in mid May he was finally told "not this year...please reapply". which he did...and he received an appointment 8 months later. trying to find a spot in the class puzzle is hard and sometimes requires an extra year....which in the long scheme of things is not a big deal. Good luck and have that plan B ready. (and by the way my DS loved his plan B so much he ended up staying there and turned down the appointment to USNA...and hes graduating/commissioning in a few weeks!)
