Here too. We are just waiting for the turn down email these days. There has already been 3 from our distract in GA that received appointments to usna.Still waiting here in Georgia. Every alert I get on my phone has me rushing to check it.
That’s totally nuts!!! Did the portal updaters all get drunk on their lunch break today?? I’m glad the “mistake” was a TD not an acceptance!! You’re back in the game, so cool!! Hope the next portal update is CPR!!Anyone else get this

Recruited athletes must be fully qualified - DoDMERB, CFA, academic/all other evaluated factors with a nomination, similar to other candidates. One thing my DS has brought up is recruited athletes. I haven’t seen mention of that on here. They take a spot. So, while posting qualifications, important to remember recruited athletes who commit to USNA & you could get bumped bc they got the spot.
Was he turned down earlierthis is interesting..i wonder if my DS has this since his went back to pending
Still pending in GA-7… three appointments is a huge number. Here too. We are just waiting for the turn down email these days. There has already been 3 from our distract in GA that received appointments to usna.

Ha yes I thought the same thing - at least it’s a good decision reversal!! But so strange!!It'd be cruel if Ms. Hwang sent an email saying "Please disregard the appointment email.."
Not sure what is happening but I am quite frustrated. Hoping good news for your DS after this roller coaster of emotionsyes. he got the email around 1pm. same to you!Not sure what is happening but I am quite frustrated. Hoping good news for your DS after this roller coaster of emotions
I have seen turned down and denied portal updates and emails before. I have seen and heard about reversal of TD to offers in summer, but I have never seen or heard USNA (or any SA or ROTC for that matter) give a appointment that was then rescinded. I'm sure it has happened in the history of the SA's and ROTC, but I think they are VERY deliberate with appointments going out and have some checks and balances because they know what effect it has if it is not correct. It'd be cruel if Ms. Hwang sent an email saying "Please disregard the appointment email.."
Oh, I know they do & DS started conversations & decided to not take that route. He explained to his dad & I what you wrote above but I appreciate the clarity quite a bit- so thank you bc you put in a bit more insight. The coach has reached out a few times this year to check in - he’s even told DS that admissions is its own world & coaches themselves only know so much. The other day (bc it’s also hard to watch his friends get recruited to traditional schools or turned down after the recruiting process to traditional schools which is grueling & ruthless process as well) he told me getting recruited wouldn’t have made a big dent in his acceptance or denial. I just knew athletes do get a spot though but they do indeed qualify for USNA!!Recruited athletes must be fully qualified - DoDMERB, CFA, academic/all other evaluated factors with a nomination, similar to other candidates.
They are expected to apply for all noms for which they are eligible, similar to other candidates.
On a MOC slate of up to 10 noms, the SA will charge 1 appointment to the MOC and has the ability to offer appointments to other fully qualified candidates on the slate and charge those to other nom authorities they control.
Recruited athletes can and do have eye-watering academic and leadership stats and other shiny things in their resumes.
“Commitment” means they have a guaranteed spot on the USNA team, and the recruiting process stops. It does not guarantee an appointment. Recruited athletes coming out of a NAPS year are also eligible for the SECNAV nom for enlisted personnel, as they have enlisted status at NAPS. Every year, there are athletes who commit to Navy, and do not get in, including from NAPS. A son of a friend committed to Navy, attended NAPS, had no problems with military performance and conduct and desire to excel, but could not satisfactorily complete the STEM coursework at NAPS without serious struggle. He was not offered an appointment. He went on to college elsewhere, majored in business and is doing just fine in the healthcare equipment industry.
