My DS and another student from his high school got appointments this year. So two from VA-11 and the same high school. My 21' had 4 from his high school class get Appointments and my 24' had two from his class. Huge pull from our county. My 21' had 9 students total get Academy Appointments. There is no rhyme or reason...just solid transcripts/resumes and very competitive county for academics, sports and band.
I have spoken to our college career counselor many times and she told us that colleges do take into account the specific high school you are coming from. Colleges know if your kids are being challenged. A 4.0 GPA in one high school could be totally different then a 4.0 in another high school. Colleges/Universities/ SAs...they look at where you are coming from. It can make a difference. Just being real here. I have friends who don't want to live where we are b/c it's too cut throat and too competitive for academics and especially sports. Hope that all makes sense. Nothing is cut and dry and you have to be careful comparing one candidate to another. There are many deciding factors that may not seem obvious.
