USNA Class of 2028 Waiting and Speculating

So I guess foundation is no longer an option?
Ah - found it - wanted to respond to this earlier, but had to dig through the white-out post blizzard occurring in this thread and the “posting every day” thread.

The Naval Academy Foundation Scholarship program is administered by the independent 501(c)3 non-profit Foundation, part of the USNA Alumni Assn, equally non-profit and independent, non-governmental organizations. The Foundation Scholarship comes from donated funds, not U.S. govt tax-payer appropriated funds, such as USNA uses for NAPS. I think the way this works is USNA Admissions suggests candidate names to the Foundation, and the scholarship administration and coordination with partner schools happens with the Foundation team. Of course, Admissions and Foundation Scholarship team work hand in hand.

I don’t know why it is not showing in the portal. If it has never shown up there, and the offers have been communicated another way, I would suspect we have a “keep church and state separate” situation. If it has shown in the portal in the past but not now, it could be all offers are out. Depending on acceptances, there may be an opportunity later on.

Looking at past class profiles, Foundation Scholars numbered as:
Class of 2027, 47 from Foundation and civil prep
Class of 2027, 44
Class of 2025, 43
Class of 2024, 46

SWAG - the number is in the forties every year. I don’t know how many are Foundation. The stat is somewhere.
@NavyHoops @OldRetSWO ?!

Wait list without a nomination? Lord help us. That's like double secret probation. Thanks for the feedback, BTW.
VP or Supt’s noms. They are rare, like unicorns, but we know at least 5 VP noms occur each year. I think this scenario is rare. I would think NAPS or foundation is more likely.

Still pending. I don't think anything will happen today. It'll be the end of the week, maybe. Also, back in December a coach told us admissions said they were weeks behind. And anyone with only a presidential nominations (like my DS) will be looked at last.
I wouldn't necessarily bank on that. Both my cycles it all hit in the mid afternoon.

Yeah, really not thinking about unicorns. Of course it would be nice, but DS would be absolutely thrilled with NAPS or foundation. He has definitely bought into the "golden ticket" mantra.

I have two candidates in a wait mode. They’ve both been in regular contact and I’ve encouraged them to use this time to work their “plan B” while hoping for their “plan A”. Both have shown “pending” for a while..

That's been our plan. My DS's is excited for his plan B. Its a stress relief that at least Plan B is approved and in the bag.

It's hard to remember how good my DS's plan B is. 1/2 ride offer at 2 different private schools on a merit based scholarship. We all want plan A for our kiddos though.

Your DS is wise beyond his years..it’s better than the a golden ticket because he doesn’t have to deal with oompah loompahs in Newport -although the Rhodies are an acquired taste..👀

I'll share a funny reason it would be nice to hear yes or no decision beyond the much more important reasons... I'm waiting to see if I should renew my DS Epic ski pass (sale ending soon). If its plan A he wont have time to use it for the value in it. If Its Plan B then he will have normal weekend life and we can use it.

However if it’s plan A, Epic Ski pass for military is a killer deal and you’ll want to buy that anyway! And mids qualify for that. Best deal ever!

I get that you don't have any info to give. But do you think that complete radio silence from a BGO is a best practice? I have seen lots of complaints about BGO's and frankly while some don't have any merit, many of them are pretty valid. Especially with what Annapolis is telling us to expect from the process.
DS's been through this twice. I don't recall him being told anything from Annapolis as to what to expect of the process, which is fine. He's handling it.

If I have things to say then I say them, otherwise it is up to them to ask. I went through this as a candidate with little to no parental involvement AND no BGO at all as they were just starting the program. I actually reached out to one in my state and heard nothing which is one of the reasons that I became a BGO long ago. When my son applied, i was of course not his BGO and actually did not work the high school in our town for USNA. His BGO did the interview and then was silent. I'm glad to assist if anyone asks but I do not go around to my candidates on a regular basis.
.
If you think that is inappropriate or negligent on my part, feel free to reach out and join and take my place, It's been 33 years thus far for me and I'll be glad to hand it off. I actually mentioned a thought of retiring to my Area Coordinator last year and I was asked to remain even though we have over 60 BGOs in our area.
Don't retire!! My gut feeling is that you have too much to offer.

I know I have seen a lot of talk about plan B, and we did our best to encourage more options for our DS. He went to Inspire and NASS and is absolutely determined to attend the USNA. His plan B is UCF and to re-apply next year if all else fails. Still pending now. Prayers for all on this day and the days coming. God bless all of these future leaders.
