USNA Class of 2028 Waiting and Speculating

Reality isn't that different with other top tier schools. Oldest who is an off the charts math guy got deferred EA than rejected at MIT. Would it have been nicer for them to just reject him in December instead of waiting until March? Of course. He got a regular decision courtesy wait list (along with 3,000 other people) at wife's ivy alma mater instead of an outright rejection in the hopes that she would keep giving them money. Fact is that the colleges hold all of the cards in the admissions process. They are going to play them to their advantage.
We could have a whole nother subgroup on forums on the craziness of top-tier college admissions - colleges create massive waitlists with questionable rationale....I think USNA keeps a fairly short waitlist due to expected yield, so are at least "honest" in offering WL spots. This is definitely not the case at most top universities.

I have been mostly focused on the USCGA thread but since DS is now on USNA waitlist, I have spent a significant amount of time on these USNA forums (ok, like way too much time). I’d just like to say that I would love to sit down and have a drink and discussion with most of you. You all really know how to keep a conversation going.
I have learned so much and appreciate all of the wisdom and experience that everyone brings to this forum. I find myself rooting for so many of these kids who I know so little about - and appreciate the support and dedication of the parents. I wish I had found this forum sooner - and DS #2 (who is 12), should consider himself lucky if he decides to go the SA route. I should be an expert by then, right?!
Yes - I am an infrequent participant here and don't even have a 2028 kid but find so much good convo here. Cheering for all those who are waiting final notification as well as the amazing superstars who will end up sharing their talents at other institutions this coming fall.

Noms and Appointments along with IT are the busy group for '28 today. A different group from Admissions will field the '29 questions.
