USNA Class of 2028 Waiting and Speculating

So needing a waiver is a detriment to ultimately receiving an appointment? “If you haven’t received a waiver by mid-April you’ll be put on wait list?” I’m very confused about the waiver. My son was D/Q because he was prescribed an inhaler last year, which he barely used. He had a lingering cough from being sick. He is a cross country/track runner and has no underlying lung problem. I understand the need to be thorough, but I’d hate to see his application hurt by this as it is 100% not a problem. His doctor offered to write a letter. Should we be reaching out to DODMERBS and/or Navy waiver review? Everything I’ve read says sit tight it’s automatically under waiver review. We have heard nothing since September. He passed CFA with excellent scores and has his nomination.
I was DQ'd in December for the same issue. I was prescribed an inhaler when I was younger which I barely used but was still DQ'd for bronchial activity and asthma. I have an LOA, so USNA requested AMI's almost a day after. DoDMERB updated for me and sent me an email along with admissions medical. Specifically, they asked for me to consult a pulmonologist and take a methacholine challenge test which the doctor reports on and elaborates more on medical history regarding the inhaler. Hopefully he gets requested for an AMI as well, wishing him the best!

DS received a call from our senators office informing him that he has received an appt. Within the hour his status had changed from pending to CPR. Maybe this years placeholder?
Congrats !! Excellent news for your DS!

BGOs can see status, but we are advised not tell candidates. And we are not checking our portal hourly. Heck at this point in an admissions cycle I am lucky to check weekly.
Thank you Navy Hoops. In your POV is this years admissions cycle the same in terms of candidate quality? Timing?

Congratulations. My DS had a similar story, his portal had already changed to CPR from just pending, but he also had a text from his MOC asking for a time they could connect on the phone. He ended up leaving the dinner table to take the call (we weren't aware of any of this, he hadn't told us about the text or the upcoming phone call) and when he came back he was grinning from ear to ear and told us the good news. We spent the next hour texting and calling everyone we could think of. Still all sinking in but just incredible.

Yes. You can go back to other appointment threads in past years and see the patterns hold mostly true, maybe a week or two shift in timing. Some of past years impacts to these very slight shifts were new system implemented, government shut downs, shortages in staff (mainly the mail room). The pattern really remains the same. The anxiety amongst each class remains the same. Honestly I applied prior to the system being electronic and ma was delivered by the pony express and really the biggest difference is we just lacked visibility. Well and lost close to 400 people in our class.

I saw a convo regarding the portal. Curious to see what “last updated …..” means? Does that just mean the last time all the information was looked at or just that the application autosaving its progress.

Congratulations! It's such an honor that the MOC takes the time to call to share the news.

As I learned here, every MOC has control over how they manage the nomination process. I've posted this previously. In our case, I (Dad) received the call from MOC. U.S. Capitol flashed on my cell and I picked up immediately. MOC was highly complimentary and was honored to submit the nomination. DD actually knew appointment went through hours earlier with email from admissions. I still chuckle at the sequence.

FWIW, if the appointment list means anything year-to-year, at this time last year, there were 71 appointments on the list. This year there are 46. So either fewer people are posting this year, or appointments are going out more slowly, or both.

True story: both of my boys received their (same) Senators nom. One year our Senator called. One year the same Senator didn’t call.

So they can also do different things, different years. It could be as simple as they had other more pressing things taking up their time.

My son who got the call was awoken from a deep sleep to take it. He doesn’t even remember the call 😂

If I haven't received any news on pursuit of a medical waiver, would it be a good idea to reach out to Admissions? I'm guessing I should just hurry up and wait, but I was wondering if it's worth a shot

So I am obviously speculating and this is the forum for that:)

USNA has moved pretty quick on everything for DS. Medical requested in July, Waiver requested about a week after DQ, Waiver granted within a week of submitting all AMI, Nom in place in Nov....... all he lacks is the appt. We have been surviving this process on the idea that, his chances are HIGH based on how quickly they have moved on everything but then no LOA..... is the timing on all the request a factor or really just irrelevant. Does each region process differently (starting to feel that way with multiple SAs).

They are processing thousands of applications at the same time.

I think what is closer to the truth … you can’t compare the process between candidates.

Are they the winner of the slate? Do they have competitive alternatives on the slate?

All dqs are not the same.
