Hello everyone!
During my sons interview with the NROTC recruiter my ds was told that USNA and NROTC are doing things a little differently this year. This year you won't get an offer from NROTC and USNA. He was told that they are talking to each other(NROTC/USNA) and will only offer one. I don't know how true this is but it does make sense. Can anyone confirm or deny this fact?

I would like to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving and I'm sure most will hear something soon. Oh and our Mid will be home in two days.

Not trying to resurrect this thread, but my son got his NROTC scholarship Friday. His local liaison called him with the info and it was reflected on his online status. Today he was called by the main NROTC office. They congratulated him on his scholarship and asked if he was also applying to USNA. He told them yes. They told him that he should accept his NROTC scholarship now and if he did get an appointment to USNA and planned to accept that to just let them know as soon as possible so they could use the NROTC scholarship for someone else. So I'm thinking they may be following up better than in past years possibly to keep people from accepting both until the last minute, but it sounds like having one won't keep you from consideration for the other.

I wasn't even enough of a gambler to know what betting short meant but it seemed like odds would be against it to me as well!

I can't imagine how it would. First off, the majority of the USNA appointments are not made until into April. Waiting until after this would be a huge hinderance to colleges and ROTC units finalizing their classes. To select earllier in the year by eliminating the 3Qs with nominations from ROTC consideration would produce the same 500 or so that is a concern for NAPS, too good for ROTC but not good enough for the Academy.

Yes, like shorting stock! And that is precisely what our Mid did a number of seasons back. Accepted the ROTC scholarship until receiving appointment. Congrats to the "winners" on all counts! You've invested wisely, selling the same!
