We live in Falmouth. My mid, hubby and I went down last Sunday night and caught some mids before they left for the night. Next year I'll go earlier to see if anyone needs anything. Today we went around the Vineyard to watch VOST boats. Zaraffa was doing awesome!
That's a great idea! I'll have to keep track of the boats next year too!!

My son had a very similar report - Stamford YC (got a kick out of riding around in the host family's Ferrari), host family four story house, at the helm when the storm hit - they must have been in the same group of boats in first block. I didn't hear any septic tank stories! I don't know if they were instructed to do this but thought it was nice of son to mail the host family a USNA sailing embroidered belt from the Midstore as a thank you gift after he got home on block 2 leave.
Something is not right with the GPS receiver, cables, antenna ...shouldn't be without a signal for 8 hrs (equipment issue most likely).

Have your DS shoot me a PM after plebe summer.
I doubt he will be rejected from an Intramural Program. Durning some very recent BGO training, the Navy Sports Rep. (Retired USN 06-has been at USNA for many years), said that "Offshore Sailing" is one of two sports that Navy "does not Recruit" for. So something is wrong regarding facts...did I hear that right from the Captain?

DD had similar experience ( total novice in terms of sailing) when she went for the interview. She jokingly said it was too short and crisp and knew right away she wont get the spot. She did add that she will try harder once the plebe summer ends.

USNA has no intramural sailing that I’m aware of. A few informal programs exist to get mids their B-quals. Offshore Sailing does not recruit but still has a selection process.

That makes sense, maybe DD was using incorrect terminology.
So once the PS ends, can the plebes still get to apply and participate?

There used to be a sort of intramural sailing competition during plebe summer - intercollegiate (Dinghy) folks were sailing during sports with the varsity coaches but other sailing folks were in the keelboats and did a company competition.
I could see them saying "No spots open" if they already had more signups than they had places in the boat.
Same thing used to happen during ac year company sports - once spots were full, you had to go to another sport.

There are so many ECAs at the Yard, MIDN, have multiple choices to make....there isn't enough time. Almost for sure, if a MIDN doesn't get there
"sports" choice ... they will find many other ECAs. It's actually a very busy base. This all goes with the bond they build with classmates and others. As long a MIDN is there for the right reasons....he/she will have an amazing time . Our MIDN is always happy when we talk (FaceTime). Although its difficult to get him to call/communicate-which is normal as they progress and mature. So if sailing is available - great. If not-its not a huge deal (theres always next semester, and the next...

Absolutely..
MIDS May think it’s a cool sport now but it won’t take long to change their preference.

Naval Academy Dinghy Sailing 🤔 NADS. I saw a picture of a flag for it fairly recently. But yes, an intramural sailing something or other.

I am a charter member of the NADS as I was there when we came up with that name and put it on shirts, etc.
We were also intercollegiate National Champs for my 2/C and 1/C years
