I am requiring a waiver for usna and was wondering if waivers were still being given out and when the cut off date is for candidates to recieve a waiver. I have been CPR since early january and have been medically DQ'd since about the same time. Is this long without hearing something a bad thing?

No ... it’s typical. It could be until April 15th.

My medical exam was finished in September and I didn’t get my waiver until right before Christmas. So that’s 3 months, given they’re extra busy now I can’t imagine the wait shrinking...

The consideration to grant waivers continues. No one can say in your case if it will come through or not - but not hearing anything yet - is not necessarily a bad thing.
The worst part about your particular wait is that it could extend past April 15th. Occasionally, waivers are granted just weeks before I-Day.

Also, USNA doesn't consider someone for a waiver until they are ready to offer an appointment or very close to it. It's simply a resource issue -- no need to spend the time/effort reviewing records if the candidate isn't in line for an appointment.

Why would I get a waiver so early but no LOA or appointment despite two nominations then?

Everyone is different. Maybe you have a dq that is an easier waiver? Was yours a waiver or remedial?

Wasn’t yours a vision issue that you were actually ok on?

Yes, but DoDMERB still shows the DQ because my technition told me they won’t take my doctors exam (for obvious reasons, all it would take is being friends with an optometrist who will say you’re correctable according to him)

I would call DoDMERB. My son’s DoDMERB changed to medical waiver granted when USNA granted the waiver.

Well there’s a waiver granted but they DQd me for NROTC which is when I called and we had the conversation about how they can’t remove my DQ but NROTC will see my additional information from my doctor. The goal is USNA but NROTC is plan B...

Waivers that require an individualized review are the ones that typically aren't done until a decision is at hand. Waivers for things like colorblindness (you either are or are not) or things where a test is determinative as to is/is not might come sooner.

@usna1985

Picking up from February thread, would you say then that news in the form of appt/TWE for my son with no LOA, a just-granted congressional nom, and a waiver granted for an "individualized review" type unusual case would be more likely to be early or more like March/April? I don't know if there is any correlation at all but the nomination call came the same day the waiver was granted 12/16. The DQ had been since mid-Oct.

Thanks for any insight. This is for a competitive slate in a competitive district so we have no idea how he stands except the request for a waiver is positive but I don't know how positive.

I have also been wondering how likely "waivers granted" turn into appointment offers but I imagine no data on that.
