Vehicles: anyone else trying to purchase one 🚗 🛻??

The “Maverick” does not exactly evoke thoughts of high quality. For those of you not old enough to remember, the Maverick was one of Ford’s first “economy” cars (after the Falcon I guess) to come out after the oil embargo and spike in gas prices. I would pick another name for a new model. But maybe very few remember the Maverick (Or have a different opinion of the Maverick than I do)

P.S. - At least the Maverick was better than the Futura.
Agree on the name. That is the first thing I thought of when I heard the name. It's always interesting when manufacturers recycle model names, especially to a different style of vehicle.

I am having a major issue. My lease is up in April/May. The good news is that I can profit around 10K by buying the car and then selling it to a place like CarMax or even the dealership. The bad news is there is nothing to buy and if there is, its way too expensive. My wife wants me to buy the car and wait until things get normal. Problem is that by the time things get normal, i won't be making 10K on the car, I am not in love with the car as it was supposed to be short term as my Dodge Charger' engine froze up, and didn't want to lease a Jaguar F-Type yet as I was still in the middle of paying college tuition for my young son Son is out of college and working, Now I cant afford the Jag, assuming you can get one, the lease payments have like tripled. Yes, first-world problems.

Not all are ROTC cadets, but some of the seniors on my wrestling team are taking jobs in cities: Philadelphia, Boston & New York for this reason; they'd prefer to pay more in rent, but have access to reliable public transportation with the hope that car prices get back to reasonable levels in a year or two. I got very lucky-my grandmother leased a 2018 Subaru Crosstrek (6spMT). It had less than 20,000 miles on it and the buyout was just under $15,00. My Dad gave her the cash to buy it out and I'm making payments to my Dad.

You guys are depressing me. We would like to retire our 2006 Toyota Sienna with 225,000 miles and get a new Rav4. I don't really want to just "bite the bullet", but I'm not sure how long we can wait.
Go get an estimate on the Sienna, you may be surprised by what's offered. New car prices are bad, i.e. MSRP, but used are ridiculous.

Mrs. Stealth has a 2016 4-Runner that currently has 52,000 miles on it. While at her dealership a month ago for an oil change a salesman approached her and asked if she has considered trading it in. She knows prices are high so she asked him how much she could get for it. His offer was only $2000 less than she had paid for it new 5 years ago. It would be an amazing deal except for the fact that she loves her 4-Runner and would only want a new one as a replacement. New ones are impossible to get. It’s crazy.

The current Maverick is a hybrid pickup truck.

After 35 years with a company car, I retired and had to actually buy a vehicle. Used cars were impossible to find and more expensive than new. New car lots were nearly empty and there were months long waiting lists (prepaid by the way). I wanted a Camry but may have taken just about anything I could get. I was willing to travel nearly anywhere and was using CarMax's search engine to find something I could have shipped in or travel to. You would be amazed at lack of inventory and high prices (supply/demand). Got lucky when the Toyota dealer got an unclaimed 2022 Camry in and I got the first call. After a career in sales, I feel I can sniff out the tactics but when warned that if I didn't take it the car would be gone by the afternoon I believed them. No choice on color, options, or trim model - it was truly the only one on the lot. Bought it and paid full sticker price - something I hadn't previously done in my entire lifetime having purchased (or assisted) many family members in the process.

The good news (like some posters above) is that we hold our cars forever. DW's car is a 2004 and running fine (Chicago weather and salt has made the body more rust than finished paint but no safety issues). I am sure the neighborhood Karen's cringe seeing it in the driveway but too bad.
EXACTLY our experience. My friends don’t believe me 😂. Glad for the confirmation!!

Somone who has an extra car they can use…and sell theirs for profit, and wait for prices to come down, is in the best situation.

Sort of like selling your house for a lot (presently) and living in your parents basement (🙋‍♀️) u til the market comes down.

Although when will THAT be?? No end in sight.

I guess I’m glad we are in a position to purchase. I know many are not. And honestly would hate to see my firstie take this on (they are already buying another one for the fiancé). Can’t imagine purchasing two right out of school with these prices.

Who knows.

Beef prices are coming down next week.

Our 1999 Suburban with 230k died the end of October. We knew it was dying so we'd been talking to the Chevy dealer about a new Traverse, so we were ready to order one as soon as the 2022's specs came out. Seems like dealers only want to order Black or White cars and we didn't want that so we shopped around and found a dealer that would process a specific build to order, and when Chevy opened orders on Nov 1 we pulled the plug and ordered it. We have it's VIN and loan paperwork set, but it's still in MI - supposed to get here 1 Feb. I've been taking DH to the express bus every morning, and then he gets a different bus home and walks a couple blocks to our house -- it's getting really old! Sure hope the 1 Feb date is accurate!

We lost our van when it was totaled after a pronghorn antelope strike in WY while on vacation (good enough to drive home, but auto shop discovered frame damage once bumper taken off, etc). We ended up getting $5000 less than what we paid 4 years ago for the totaled car. We were waiting to order the new model Toyota Tundra, when DD totaled another vehicle (it has not been a good year). We could no longer wait to get a vehicle and found the same thing everyone else has: used vehicles are selling for near new. Soooooo, we purchased a new commuter car for dh and he flew 3 states away to pick it up. DD is driving one of our older cars and everyone rotated within the family. :DWe delayed the truck; too many other expenses this year!

Toyota is saying 3-6 months on a build order. Similar to your timeframe!

You got people??
Lol a very good friend and client owns a grocery store. We were chatting and I asked to buy a whole tenderloin. He said the message from the wholesaler is current orders are filled at todays prices - and there is a hold because prices are coming down next week.

Recently went out to look at Kia. The models we were interested in had grossly inflated MSRP’s plus they had an extra $5,000-10,000 fee tagged on due to supply shortages!

We decided to buy a new Mazda CX-5
instead, which we actually got at MSRP—one of the few cars we found that doesn’t have an extra fee due to demand.
I love it! Zoom zoom for sure. I may get a CX-9 in the future when my other car needs replacing.
