Just a quick question about the VP nom: when would be the best months to submit it in? I am wondering if this can have an affect on wether an applicant would be successful in receiving it. I know all of these applications are rolling so it is best to submit everything ASAP, but I also have a couple of exciting and interesting activities and programs coming up in the next 2 months, so I wanted to hold off until about November to submit it since I could write about them. The VP nom is very important to me, since it is the only one I am eligible for, so any advice regarding it is much appreciated. Thanks!

Out of curiosity why is that the only one you are eligible for? I have never heard of that.

I live in Canada, but I am an American citizen because I was born there. But since currently I do not have legal residence anywhere in the states I cannot apply for the senator or congressmen ones ( I have emailed all of their offices though asking if I can be made an exception, no responses yet though ).

I would call USAFA admissions and ask them. The VP non is a super long shot. I know there are children of active duty service members living all over the world. I think you may revert to the state that you most recently lived in. I would definitely ask USAFA!

Assuming you are under 18 and a military dependent, you would apply through the state in which your parents are legal residents (even if they are not currently living in the state).

If you are over 18 or your parents do not have an established legal residence in any state, it gets a little trickier.

I am under 18, but I am not a military dependant. My parents and family have 0 connections to the military, and my parents are no longer legal residents of the state, although they did work and pay taxes there for the year after I was born.

FYI, the VP nom is not one you apply for. It is managed by the SA and given to a deserving candidate that has not been picked up elsewhere. As noted previously, reach out to USAFA for more advice, but start with the application and go from there.

The USAFA website states:

Nominations

The main concern for U.S. students living abroad is obtaining a nomination. If your family maintains residency in the United States, you can request a nomination from both of your senators, your representatives and the vice president. If your parents do not maintain residency in the United States, then you must request a nomination from the vice president.

@nicksand18 - in addition to reaching out to USAFA, since the VP Nom is a long shot, if you are truly passionate about attending USAFA, it might be worthwhile playing the long game and looking into establishing residence in the US for a future attempt (if needed).
