is there a waiting list at USCGA?
it says 70 percent of applicants usually accept, so does the 30 percent who declines go to the wait listers? just curious, thanks.
The admissions office has a lot of data, going back years and years, that allows them to shape the class size to a specific desired number. Their historic data shows that they will usually get an acceptance rate of around 70%, so they will award whatever number of appointments are necessary to arrive at a specific class size.
This year they awarded 411 appointments and approximately 70% of those were accepted, resulting in a class size of 290.
Candidates are urged to apply EA, it's non-binding. Records and applications are reviewed and first round acceptances are sent out sometime around Christmas. There are no rejections at that point.
Per CAPT Susan Bibeau's brief during Session 1 AIM in early July, while sitting in as an Admissions Partner, she stated that no candidates would be rejected and that those not accepted during EA would be placed into the regular admissions pool for further review. She also encouraged those not selected during EA to keep admissions up to date on any information that would strength their record (SAT/ACT scores, awards, achievements, quarterly grades, volunteer service, etc.). Things may have changed from previous candidate cycles.
If you are an AAP you can certainly check the list of 2013 EA decisions to confirm what I posted.
luigi59, you seem to be very educated with all the admissions questions. may i ask, are you a current or former admissions officer? having said that, i appreciate all the help you and other members on this website are giving me.
The only USCGA Admissions Officer (and there are only 3 of them!) who posts on this site is known as "Objee."

However, there are many AAP's here (besides me) who post reliable information.
Good luck!
We're back up to five Admissions Officers, nice to have a full staff again, but we're keeping three regions.

objee when you say there are 5 admissions officers, does that mean there are only 5 people who receive all the applications and review them and offer appointments?
