Waiters ....this thread is for you

My DD is still CPR as of today - no email, no portal update, and no TWE. The fact she is still alive, so to speak, gives us hope. If not, that's ok because we've taken the advice of people who've been down this road before by having a plan b and c. GPA 4.54 with lots of honors classes, ACT 29, 2 varsity sports, NHS president, lots of volunteer work, CAP, CVW, NASS, and wrote a great essay. So I guess we'll see! Good luck to all.

I've been accepted to university of Maryland and South Carolina, both honors, I have a 35 ACT, 4.5 GPA, Team captain varsity volleyball, eagle scout and ASPL, hundreds of service hours, was told at NASS that my CFA was above average (granted that is just opinion from the mids), I have 2 nominations, and leadership positions in NHS, PTSA, and my youth group, have a leadership position at my part-time job where I work 20hrs/week. I'm still CPR but I have hope!

Ok because I do think it is interesting and good info for other candidates. DS is CPR - 35 ACT 4.0 GPA (top public HS in State and top 50 nationally) lots about of honors and AP classes, Student Body VP, Varsity Football 3 years, editor of the school newspaper, Model UN (awarded delegate of the year by Duke University) one of two high school kids selected to be part of the local volunteer fire fighters force and I can’t forget the President of the school Accapella group. Grandfather is a USNA grad.

He has two nominations and interviews well. Not sure what else he could of done. One piece of advice going through this process, is apply to all the SA. It appears that Navy is the toughest to get into.

Apply to all only if you want to service in that Armed Forces Branch. The SA is a conduit to the service. You don’t want to be at sea, don’t apply for water based SAs. If the prospect of digging a hole and sitting in it for a week sounds fun... apply for the services that support that. A SA is great, but it’s about the commission and service in the end, the SA is only 4 years.

I agree:)

Stealth - talking about how many posts a poster has as "credibility" over their statement is not right. I'm a USNA grad, have a current USNA midshipman and another as a current applicant. Talking about only 4 posts is not right and I believe her post has merit. Thank you for your commitment to this forum, but your post on this subject is not right. The OP asked about "Waiters." Then, "Overwhelmed" posts about how their kid already got accepted to USNA and debating between that or AROTC at Princeton has no business on this thread. Feel free to dismiss this post as a moderator, but I think the person who posted that note on this thread was insensitive and doesn't belong on this thread.

@Qwerty - your thoughts were spot on. I read the response and felt the same thing. Though I only have a few posts on this forum (Stealth), I am relevant and know what's right as well.

Best,
USNA_Dad

We need to pass the time somehow. Let’s be positive! Anybody want to say what colleges that have been accepted to so we can see how many awesome kids there are here ?!?! I’m regularly impressed by the caliber of people in this forum. It’s not easy to even be in this situation. Everyone is exceptional. What’s your plan b or c?

For Pete's sake, stop dredging up something that happened a month ago. The conversation of the thread drifted into potential college options and I wasn't the only individual to mention an appointment to various service academies.

DS has to choose between USNA appointment or Princeton AROTC.
I honestly don't know how you turn either one down.
No. The OP discussed options for kids who have not received an appointment to USNA, and you talked about how your kid has received an appt. to USNA and debating between that and AROTC to an ivy. We get it that your kid has applied to multiple service academies, but what you posted on this thread was crass. Period. Qwerty was right in calling you out. And yes, I've gone through this process as an applicant, and have a current mid at USNA and have a current USNA applicant. Just supporting Qwerty who called this behavior out - as it has no business on this thread when parents are eagerly awaiting results of their kids' application status to USNA.

And once again... let’s get back on topic. These are all opinions. If you want to debate opinions about someone posting something you didn’t like take it elsewhere.

The thread was about Waiters - Waiters, waiting on a decision from USNA on application status. This post is about parents and applicants who are waiting and our opinions on the waiting. Having a crass parent discuss how their kid has already been accepted to USNA and debating whether to accept that or attend an ivy on an AROTC scholarship was insensitive to the audience for which this thread was intended. My posts have responded to the opinions of those responding to the OP message. Qwerty was blasted for commenting on the fact that a poster was bragging about her kid getting accepted to USNA. I support her feelings as I believe that post was bragging. I appreciate your status as a moderator, but please respect my opinion as a grad, parent of a mid and parent of an applicant as well.

Best,
USNA_Dad

I am actually surprised at the negative turn this post has taken. I took the "waiter...this thread is for you" topic to mean all high school seniors and/or their parents that were "waiting" for many things, DODMERB clearance, other college acceptances, and of course USNA. I thought it was a chance to celebrate all the many opportunities that were being presented. I have nothing but positive energy to send to every kid and parent out their in whatever form of "waiting" they are currently residing. Best of luck to all.

Waiting on Harvard,Boston, Tulane, U Chicago and Vassar

It's great your kid has an appointment to USNA, but reading from the OP, she asked about our kid's plan Bs, while we wait for our kid's Plan A - USNA. Congrats and thanks for telling us your kid has an appt. to USNA. There is a DIY 2023 appointment thread. Meanwhile, this thread is about kids waiting for word from USNA.

CPR and waiting here as well... very nerve racking last few days! I have prom tonight, hopefully I will be able to be present and forget about the waiting for a few hours! Good luck to all, we will all end up where we need to be whether that be an academy, one of the prep schools, a four year university, etc. :)

See below original post. For my DD we are unsure of plan A, B and C. While Naval is in the mix so is NROTC (we were “waiting”) and also “waiting” for many others.

As I mentioned above I find it troubling the negative posts. Which I believe triggered another attack. I wish your child the best.

Still waiting. Thinking I have to be one of an extremely small group who still is CPR. I just need some insight on what this means. I have been thinking it is good that I haven't heard yet, but if there are any spots left then it is a crazy small number. Getting worried.

My DS is still CPR, I hope we know by Monday
Some people say it’s a good thing and some say not. Do you think there are any appointments left or maybe for NAPS? Good luck

I read before that someone's congressman told them they are in the running for NAPS and will here by the end of next week. I have no clue if there are still appointments. We haven't been denied yet so I'm thinking they have to be considering us for something.
