Waitlist Class of 2025

Thank you all so much--DS is planning on contacting his AO first and hope she will have some answers or at least write back to him rather than this deafening silence-hope is a cruel friend-we are all experiencing highs and lows

I was in your shoes last year, so I feel y’all. I spoke with admissions yesterday, so I may be able to provide a little insight. The last 30 or so waivers were processed yesterday, and will be finished Thursday and Friday. There are about 50 slots left in the 2025 class, so at least 20 will be taken off the waitlist. The number that accepted their appointments was low this year and 60% of accepted needed waivers which was unusually high.

The last conditional appointments should hear by Friday this week, if not early next week. It seems likely that some on the waitlist will hear starting next week. They’re working really hard to get answers out ASAP.

HI. Are you at the academy? Are the admissions so forthcoming with their intent with student cadets? If the number accepted was low, how come they will or plan to take only 20 off the waitlist. How many are on this list to make a difference? Every day brings hope and every night brings defeat-don't know where this journey is going to end for my son. He is just an average kid with no varsity or D1 sports but was picked up for AIM last year which was a total dud due to covid and was entirely remote-he was very disappointed about this. So we don't know what to think

There has been an email sent out from USCGA for those on the waitlist. Here is part of it-
“We anticipate there will be vacancies in the class, so we plan on convening a board later this week to review all remaining waitlist applicants and tender additional appointments early next week.”

They always offer more appointments then they have spots to fill because they know that some percentage will decline for other options. I have heard that last year they did not take anyone off the waitlist at all. For the class of 2024 they made 418 appointment offers and ended up with 266 cadets (plus 6 international). That means you need a lot of people to decline (or not get waivers) to have openings. I do not have the insider information that coasttocoast mentioned, but if they have 50 spots as of today, and they are issuing 30 more waivers to those with conditional appointments, then that leaves only 20 spots to come off the waitlist. Good luck to everyone still waiting.

We did not get any email--what does this mean? the email went to those who are going to be getting LOA only? If we don't hear anything in about a week or two, it is safe to assume that DS is not in and go about with alternate plan? Very confusing When was this email sent? just this week?

LOA here on SAF typically does not mean “Letter of Appointment,” if that is what you are thinking. LOA is a Letter of Assurance, typically sent earlier in the cycle, to a relative handful, that essentially offers an appointment if certain conditions are met.

Hang in there.

I meant appointment letter. So you are on the waitlist and you got an email last night?
Yes, I am on the waitlist and received that email. I would check the promotions folder and spam folder if you did not see it. Also, did you respond positively to the offer to be on the waitlist?

Thank you and my son did respond and we got a confirmation too, about two weeks back. Now for the praying..

Thanks for the info. Does the 20 spots include those already taken off the waitlist or is there an additional 20 spots as of now? Thanks!

I was not told this, but I suspect they have not taken any off the waitlist yet. Could be wrong. Also the number 20 is a prediction contingent upon how many of the 30 conditional appointments receive waivers. It is likely more than 20 will be pulled off, but it’s all very much still up in the air. I offer this info to perhaps give a little hope, but please take it with a grain of salt.

In response to @wishingprayingandhoping, I am not a cadet, just an appointee waiting for a waiver decision.

I just want to make one quick remark here. No one here works in admissions so no one here knows the actual numbers to be pulled from the wait list. There may be 50, there may be 20, there may be only 5. Trying to suss out the numbers remaining is like reading tea leaves. Also, it isn't a matter of probability or odds; it's what the academy needs and what the candidate has to offer.

The only thing that matters is if there is one slot remaining and you have the slot.

Best of luck.

Our DS received a letter that they do plan on offering appointments through 6/4. He had open DODBERB to update such as covid19 and present Heath. He would not have know this if it wasn’t for admissions. He has promptly taken care of it and now he his file updated. Hopefully that doesn’t take too long. It looks like they changed websites from last year!

holding on to hope!

Thank you for giving me a little hope--you are almost in and good luck--my son is still waiting and hoping and praying for the best
