As per the email, it was stated that they will be getting their notes & papers together by today and meet up next week with the Board--praying that right decisions are made and the waiting will be over--good luck everyone

Patience and hope is all we can hold onto right now! Good luck to all of us!

Happy Monday to all of us --is today going to be the day? My DS has lost it--does not want to even look at his emails anymore and I have lost it with all the nail biting and stress.

In his email, McMunn said early this week; but that could mean a few more days, nothing today from what I have seen but there is still plenty of time!

Yes, you are right as I bet they will drag it out as long as they can and wait it out till June 4th to tell my son that he didn't get in-just our luck or lack of it-it never fails for us--lol

You could ping Objee (the USCGA admissions account for this forum) if you really want an update as he was last online at 3pm today.

just. stay. patient. -- 6 of my buddies and myself got waitlisted from mmi and we are all dying to hear; just remember that the Admissions office has a lot of big decisions to make in a really small window, but they WILL get filled, and Mr. McMunn said THIS WEEK. If nothing comes in the next 6 days, then there’s cause for concern but just remain patient.

Does this apply to all service academies?

I am sorry but we don't know how to do this pinging you have mentioned and is this account the official admissions account?
Ping used as a verb - comes from sonar “ping” sound as it contacts an object. To ping someone is to contact someone in hope of getting a response.

@Objee has posted here many years and has noted they are part of USCGA staff. Nothing here on SAF is an official account, but there are “primary source” posters with reliable first-hand knowledge.

Thank you, @Capt MJ --as someone mentioned above, we will wait--patience is a virtue that can be learned at any age and I guess as a nervous parent I am learning this now--if nothing happens by the end of the week, then we move on

We read this and our hearts sank as my DS is a 17 year old average kid with dreams of serving as a coast guard for years & to see that even you all have been waitlisted even after being at MMI, makes us wonder what are they really looking for? The odds are so against us that every day without news is draining us mentally. Good luck to all you guys

Don’t give up hope. Even those appointed to CGAS aren’t guaranteed an appointment even though it’s often called a golden ticket. Each year there are people who attended NAPS, GMC and MMI on the the Coast Guards dime that still don’t make the cut for one reason or another.

Capt. Fredie himself was only accepted to USCGA on his THIRD attempt.

As a Coast Guard family, I ASSURE you that there are multiple ways to become an officer in the Coast Guard if that is truly your DS's hope. If CGA is his dream, then I hope that he gets his wish. If that CGA appointment doesn't come through, though, just know that he could always go to another great university, go MARGRAD (degree from one of our 6 civilian US Maritime Academies or USMMA), DSCC (Graduating from a Senior Military College after being in the Corps of Cadets or 2 years of another ROTC program), CSPI (attending a minority serving institute) or graduate, enlist and apply to OCS. I know that it can become very easy to get narrowly focused on CGA as a means to become an officer but there are many other ways to reach that goal. It is still competitive, of course, but if his ultimate goal is to become an Officer in the Coast Guard, he can get there. :) I know that it can become all consuming to travel the Academy application route and sometimes it can seem frustrating or discouraging. Keep thinking positive and, perhaps, keep the other avenues in mind, too. :)

Thank you so much for your kind words--he has paid the deposit at Norwich and signed up for their NROTC--let us hope that this will bring him closer to his dream and we try again next year and the next..as the beat goes on.

We all know the waiting is hard (queue Tom Petty), but you really do need to relax.
