Hello all,

I received an LOA from USMA, but I am pretty sure I will need a medical waiver. Does an LOA at all increase my prospects in the waiver process? I understand that there is probably not an answer anyone but the review board can give me, but any insight is appreciated.

The LOA is conditional upon the waiver. Not the other way around. The LOA is specific about what the conditions for offer of appointment are. I’m presuming, based on your post, that the condition is DODMERB. Don’t try to guess about whether a waiver will be required. There are many unknowns out of your control. Good rule of thumb re DODMERB: Answer nothing more or nothing less than the questions asked, and respond only with answers that you know for a fact. Do not self-diagnose.

I'm in the waiver process right now, and I also have an LOA. The day I was DQ'ed my RC emailed me and told me he was requesting a waiver for my DQ'ed conditions. My FFR and RC have both been pretty reassuring about it, if you are competitive (which you are, you hold an LOA) you'll probably get it. I've heard from my FFR that the only times he has seen kids not get the waiver from the LOA was from asthma. Asthma is a HUGE HUGE HUGE no no for West Point according to my FFR. Anyway I hope this is helpful input.

FACTS: The advantage that an LOA gives an applicant requiring a medical waiver IS = If DQ'd, Admissions will automatically request medical waiver consideration. No other SAs have caps on waivers, other than USNA for color vision:wiggle:

I do not have an LOA, but I was granted the waiver that was requested on my behalf. I got my decision in three weeks, but I think that is pretty quick in comparison to some others I've heard about. They told me to be prepared to wait 90-120 days. It seems to be a case by case basis and my DQ was pretty simple. I hope you find this helpful. DoDMERB was awesome, and they were very easy to deal with!

fdavis2025 - Thank you. Good luck:rockon:
