Wave of Appointments

Should we be expecting a wave of appointments soon? I know that the deadline of the application is coming soon on the 31st so could we expect something this week or soon? I know that mainly LOA's have been accepted and some principal nominees have not been accepted yet. Is everything coming soon?
 
To continue this thread further, my application deadline was November 3rd if I can remember correctly. Recently I saw a post about how the Air Force Academy does appointments by staggered deadlines… So if I haven't heard by now given my deadline a few months ago, is there something wrong? My entire application was complete by October, and I received a nomination in early Dec.
 
From what I've heard, sometimes appointments won't be released until all of an applicant's possible nomination choices have been told the USAFA. So that means your MOC and both Senators. For me, my deadline was Nov. 1. My application was in by Oct. 1. One of my Senators hasn't released his nominations yet, so USAFA won't even look at me until he sends his in. Their deadlines are next week, so maybe we'll be hearing sometime soon (hopefully?).

How about if USAFA already knows all of the applicant's nomination choices? That probably means playing the waiting game right? haha

It also means they cannot choose off of a slate that has incomplete applications. So if you are on a slate with 9 others and two candidates haven't completed their CFA yet, then you wait. All applications must be completely done before the USAFA can select a slate winner.

I did not know that, thank you. However, I know that my MOC submitted their slate. I was a principal nominee and I have not heard anything back is that normal?

Also, I finished my application mid December.

Just got to hope others on your slate did as well. My DS had his done in early November but I know a person on his slate who has yet taken the CFA therefore no decision on his slate will come forth until that application is complete or the deadline passes. Good luck. The waiting is the hardest part.

As a principal you have the best shot and will be offered an appointment as long as all areas meet requirements and you are deemed 3Q. I know a great young man who was a principal nominee last year, and he got notification of his appointment in mid-February. So it all depends. Admissions is quite busy.

I think this is generally true. There are going to be exceptions to this situation in that "clear vacancy" winners are not going to be held while they wait for everyone to complete their application. For example, if it is clear that the candidate(s) who have not completed their application will not be able to bridge any competitiveness gap with what the have to complete, or are not competitive with just the CFA remaining, they will not wait to award the appointment.

Oh that could be the problem right now. Very true. Waiting is actually the toughest part of the application haha.

Thank you for this info, this is very true now that I think about it.
 
If this year's appointments track with last year's, you have a few in November/December, a few more in January, about the same number in February, then the majority in March, with some in April and even May. Here is last year's appointee thread:

DD had a principal nomination, a package deadline of 1 November, and received her 2020 appointment the 3rd week of February.
 
Especially if you are new to the appointment process, please read ChristCorps' explanations of this complicated and tricky process. Others too have written cogent explanations: PIMA, especially.

It is not so simple as "I am the principal nominee," and the twists and turns can be confusing.

Read up on it; it will serve you well when considering the machinations of the military/political/industrial complex (to say nothing of the bridal industry
:cool::mad:).
