My son is a very competitive candidate but found out his vision though correctable to 20/20 is out of the stigmatizm limits of 3 diopters. For that he needs a waiver. The absolute limit is 8. Is it common for USMMA to give waivers for correctable vision?

My DD got one. Every case is different though. You cannot know until your DS goes through the application process. No one can really offer you an accurate guess.

Do not get surgery during the application process. My DD got a vision waiver for the class of 2021 for complicated issues, so it is very possible. We got our opthalmologist to write a letter on her behalf saying she had no limitations due to her vision. If they want you badly enough, they can waive it. Impossible to predict though. Just make the rest of your application as strong as possible. Good luck.

We got word from DodMerb that they want to do some more checks on his eyes. My son says they want to map his cornea. My friend who was a Flight Surgeon says not to worry that they want to see if he had surgery. (He hasen't). Anyone else dealt with this?

My DS has a scar from an old tear in his cornea that was discovered during his initial flight physical. The Navy waived the disqual and he has been a pilot for 4 years. I would think the process for USMMA would be more lenient so you should be okay. Good luck.

Thank you. He went and got the check done. The opthamologist did not see any reason he should be rejected. To add icing on the cake he received nominations to both USNA and USMMA.

My DD (Class of 2020) has -8.0 and -7.0 vision and had to have a detailed eye exam to check for retinal tears and make sure the lattice was fine. All went well and she got her waiver. She has to get checked each year to make sure nothing changes.
