Anyone experience a very quick exam? DS was out in literally 5 minutes—just vitals, listening to chest, hearing test, with no shoe and no shirt removal. Doc just checked off things on form that wasn't even performed. Dr. said he's very healthy and good luck, bye:)

This does not sound right. 5 mins is way too short. The person administering the exam should have gone through the entire medical packet that was submitted especially any information that was detailed. This appointment and facility was scheduled via DODMETS?

I've had several of my students tell me that their exam was 5 to 10 minutes. Typically, the wait is longer than the appointment. Good news is it went smoothly!

Yes, DoDMETS. My older daughters had these exams. Nothing like my son's. I was shocked. Gone are the good 'ole days. Now just farms out to civi doctors and LensCrafter or Pearl Vision. ;/

Yes. Both of ours were quick.

Just bc it was 5 mins, doesn’t mean they didn’t go over the packet ahead of time.

It’s more like a sports physical, than a complete and in depth exam. Ie: no blood draw or urinalysis.

Well count yourself lucky if the exam goes smoothly and quickly and hope it does not cause any issues in the future.

But just a warning to everyone even with any medical qualifications or waivers - sadly there was one (known) cadet pulled aside during BCT who had received a medical waiver and then was told it was a mistake by DODMERB and that the cadet would be sent home. Something like this is devastating to a student (and their family) who could have either gone elsewhere or had the medical issue explained and worked on prior to in processing.

Hopefully these quick exams do not overlook anything that USAFA will later question and dismiss.

Good luck to everyone!

That’s weird. Bc a waiver would indicate the candidate was DQ’ed by DODMERB. And then the WAIVER authority would render a decision on a waiver, or not (USAFA, in this case). If a waiver was issued, that would indicate that DODMERB issued the proper DQ (and didn’t make a mistake).

The waiver authority issues waivers. Not DODMERB 🤔

I have seen cases where the candidate is told to report, and medical will decide at that time if their medical issue is resolved enough to continue, or not. But the candidate is aware of this situation. My ‘22’s scheduled plebe roommate was one of them.

Yeah I agree with you. Not sure what exactly happened in that particular case but it seems like the appointee did get a waiver but then was told somehow it was a mistake. Very unfortunate.

Wow. When DS now C2C went for his exam it was VERY thorough. In fact, and I can't believe he told this to his worried mom, that they even documented all body markings/scars in case his body needs to be recognized! 😵‍💫

Similar to SF_Treat, the exam took over an hour and was very thorough. Working through a frustrating DQ, despite the thorough physician saying 'normal function/no limitations' for a self-reported stiff toe joint. Guess DoDMERB has no way to really know if it was a quick (5 min from OP) or a thorough one, so went the conservative route and didn't trust the exam. Frustrating. As many have said, it's a journey and requires resilience and patience.

So much patience…
