Hello everyone,

Thanks a lot in advance for helping me with my question.

I am 40 year old male, fit and healthy from asian origin (India). I am putting application package for a CWO/ Information Professional / Cyber Warfare / Intelligence officer. I have 14 years of civilian work experience in a variety of areas from banking & finance, Hotels, AML Compliance and IT consulting firm ( I use to be a tech start-up entrepreneur) across many countries (India / Switzerland / Germany / France/ USA) . I have 2 engineering degrees (IT and Instrumentation & Control) and 2 masters degrees (MSIT and MSc. Finance) (Education from India & Switzerland) . I speak 7- international languages. I am recently divorced and now have chosen the career path to serve my country, hence the US Navy.

I have already started preparing for the OAR exam and practising the PRTs since last 2 weeks.

I would appreciate, if someone could guide on my chances of became a US Naval Officer and if there are any ways to improve my chances?

Thank you all once again in advance for your guidance....

Have a wonderful day!

First question would be are you a US citizen. If not, then you must be a US citizen in order to be a officer. Second hurdle would be your age. The max age is 42 according to some sources I've read and I'm sure that others can give more specifics regarding age waivers in certain warfare communities. Although if your recruiter is already working with you then you're probably good to go. Best tips otherwise would be to do as well as possible on the PRT. Shoot for maximums. Seems like you already have enough work experience and everything. Good luck!

Thanks a lot for your reply! I am a US Citizen. And, I just started my application process with the recruiter. My worry is what are my chances for one of these positions!!

your chances are x% or y% or z%..... nobody can tell you your chances. The only way to even be considered is to apply, and the only way to make your application stand out and be accepted is the work you put into making yourself stand out. Best of luck

@kooljack, if you hang around SAF long enough, you notice that no one — no one — can answer the “chance me” posts with any certitude. That’s because there are just too many variables, and too little information about the candidate, to really know.

That’s the case with SA applications, which account for the majority of cases on this forum. So imagine how much less is known about the path you’re taking. It’s a great and honorable thing you’re attempting to do. But also unusual enough that I’d be terribly surprised if many here can give you definitive information.

Go with the primary source, whenever possible. And seek out officers who took your proposed path, to get their perspective. Your recruiter may be able to help you make connections. Best wishes to you.

I’m not sure about the age limit and I’d have to look it up, but my question is if the USN has a direct accession program to warrant officer. There have been exceptions throughout the years but to make CWO in the USN, one must have already made CPO or at least made board.

My information may be dated so I’m asking for my knowledge as well as to give OP something to investigate.

New age limit for as Cyber/Intel/Cryptologic/IP officer jobs is 42 (assigned on duty before 42nd Anniversary). Hopefully that answers your question.

For SWOs/Navy Seals/Nuclear Officers its much less....I think around 29

It answers the age question but is the Navy recruiting direct accessions to warrant officer?
