What can be changed for the final AROTC board?

After a somber weekend, I’ve finally come to terms with not getting a scholarship this past board. It hurt pretty badly, as an ROO had emailed me saying he knew I was going to get one. Anyways, I have moved on! Final board! What can be changed to boost my chances in the final board? From my understanding, I can only update my grades (just found out I got a 4.0 this past semester), test scores, and PFT. If I update my activities and essays, that will not matter correct?

Seems like I got a friend in the same boat for the 3rd board. The recruiting officer for one of the Colleges I was accepted into sent me this. Screen Shot 2019-01-29 at 11.08.28 PM.png

That is all great advice...Your CBEF score, your PMS interview score, and your board score are locked in stone. Of the three suggestions above the PFT is the least likely to move the needle very far. Unless you are going to significantly improve you ACT score that may or may not help, and you may pick up a few points by adding an activity you forgot about (don’t forget part time work or volunteering).

Bottom line is it’s a competitive process and not everyone gets a scholarship. If you want to be an Army Officer the scholarship isn’t a requirement. Bad on that ROO who told you he knew you would get one.

I’m rooting for you. I hope you get one on the 3rd board.

Good Morning, and Good Luck on the 3rd Board. I agree with Clarkson, above. I would also like to point out that if you are sufficiently committed to your path of becoming an Army Officer, nearly as many scholarship are awarded to Cadets on campus as through the National Scholarship Boards. This may not match the prestige of being offered a scholarship off the Board, but it can achieve largely the same results. I find that those who have competed nationally have a head start on being competitive once they are on campus, as they have so many documents in place and might already be medically qualified. I have found on occasion that I have the opportunity to compete for campus-based scholarships for a particular class, and may have only ONE qualified Cadet. Persistence pays!
